Job Summary

The Aptiv Connection Systems team has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the North America Product Engineering Team. The successful candidate will be a part of the Consumer Connectivity product portfolio . The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop and validate the mechanical aspects of electronic products that integrate technologies such as USB-PD, USB hub , HDMI, Qi wireless charging, NFC, LED lighting, and GSM . The candidate will provide innovative solutions and work with cross-functional teams to meet customer-driven, automotive industry specifications.

Your Role

  • Work directly with automotive OEMs and other Tier 1 suppliers to design products that meet customer functional and mechanical requirements
  • Develop product drawings and oversee and/or create MCAD models
  • Create change documentation for changes
  • Use MCAD programs for developing new components
  • Complete peer reviews of designs and design change activities
  • Work with supply chain management to provide cost analysis of Bill of Material (BoM) and component cost tradeoffs
  • Use analytical methods to perform simulations to verify operating boundaries and conditions for Worst Case Analysis
  • Conduct detailed benchmarking, competitive and cost-tradeoff analysis for area of responsibility
  • Perform simulations, worst case circuit tolerance analysis, FMEAs, fault tree analysis and similar design disciplines
  • Perform bench level testing and prototyping
  • Complete checklists as necessary for following the product development process flow
  • Work with validation team to assist in developing proper equipment and processes for Design Validation (DV) and Product Validation (PV) of product
  • Mentor other department Mechanical Engineers in proper practices, industry standards and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements
  • Create and conduct technical presentations to explain and sell new product designs
  • Support the cross-functional team including software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, ECAD, MCAD, manufacturing, and SCM
  • Your Required Background (i.e., Must Haves) :
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline ; or a combination of Associates degree in a related discipline and 2 0+ years relevant mechanical design experience
  • 5 + years relevant mechanical design experience and can demonstrate abilities
  • Familia rity with product development process including: component testing / PPAP, functional dimensioning, geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), dimensional stack-up including statistical applications, design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA)
  • Previous experience with using MCAD software to develop multi- component mechanical designs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper design methods to meet automotive thermal, environmental, structural , and appearance requirements
  • Previous experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) process
  • Previous experience designing injection molded p lastic components
  • Previous experience designing machined, cast, and stamp ed metal components
  • Previous experience with tolerance stack-up analysis
  • A bility and willingness to travel as required
  • D emonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office ( i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Outlook , Teams, Visio, etc.)
  • A bility to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • S trong results-orientation and execution characteristics
  • E xcellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team.
  • A bility to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independently
  • R esourcefully innovative and adapt s in a rapidly changing environment

Your Preferred Background (i.e., Nice to Haves)

  • Previous experience with SolidWorks and S ie mens NX MCAD software
  • Previous experience designing plastic and for 3D printing and other rapid prototyping technologies
  • Previous experience designing, simulating, and testing LED lig hting to customer requirements including light pipes and diffusers
  • Previous experience designing , simulating, and testing active and passive heat dissipation technologies integrated within a product
  • Previous experience in engineering components including inductive wireless chargers and magnets
  • Previous experience with electrical contact systems and plating requirements
  • Strong presence, poise
