About The Role

Senior Operator at Impala Terminals Rotterdam

Main Purpose

The role of Senior Operator involves overseeing and executing key operational processes, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of products, coordinating with vessel representatives, and supporting maintenance and safety initiatives. Close collaboration with Shift Supervisors, CCR Operators, and Operators ensures seamless terminal operations. In the absence of the Shift Supervisor, the Senior Operator takes responsibility for managing the shift, maintaining high standards of performance and safety. Proficiency in both Control Room (CCR) tasks and outside operations is essential, ensuring flexibility and expertise across all areas of terminal activity. The Operations department functions under the leadership of the Operations Manager, with the Operations Officer providing support in their absence. Shift operations are managed by Shift Supervisors, with teams comprising Senior Operators, CCR Operators, and Operators. The Senior Operator serves as a vital link, providing operational and leadership support to ensure effective and efficient terminal operations. Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Supervise and monitor the loading and unloading of sea-going vessels and barges, ensuring all safety and quality standards are met. • Coordinate operational activities with vessel representatives and ensure proper handling and storage of products. • Conduct regular safety inspections, identify any unsafe situations, and take appropriate actions to mitigate risks. • Support the maintenance team by identifying and reporting equipment issues and assisting with minor repairs. • Manage shift logs and ensure a smooth handover of duties during shift changes. • Supervise contractors on-site and ensure compliance with work permits and safety guidelines. • Play an active role in safety rounds, identifying and addressing any hazards or deviations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience

  • Education: MBO Operator B or similar.
  • 5 to 10 years experience in a similar position in a liquid bulk terminal.

Skills

  • Demonstrable technical knowledge through experience and training.
  • Demonstrable process knowledge through experience and training.
  • Full proficiency in Dutch as well as English is essential.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Driver’s licence Workrelated objections
  • Nuisance from noise.
  • The potential for stressful situations due to the critical nature of the role.
  • The need to work irregular hours or shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • The constant need to be vigilant and make quick decisions, which can lead to mental pressure.
