About The Role

REPORTS TO: Head of Finance

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Financial Transaction Management
  • Process and accurately record daily financial transactions in accordance with approved financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all payment requests, invoices, receipts, vouchers and supporting documents are properly reviewed and authorised before processing.
  • Maintain accurate records of income, expenditure, payables and other financial transactions.
  • Ensure transactions are correctly coded and posted to the appropriate accounts and cost centres.
  • Support the timely processing of approved payments and other financial obligations.
  1. Cash and Bank Management
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of cash and bank transactions.
  • Prepare and support regular bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Ensure petty cash is properly managed, accounted for and replenished in accordance with company procedures.
  • Investigate and report discrepancies identified during reconciliations.
  • Ensure adequate supporting documentation is maintained for all cash and bank transactions.
  1. Accounts Payable and Receivable
  • Support the processing and monitoring of supplier invoices and payments.
  • Maintain accurate records of amounts due to suppliers and other creditors.
  • Support the monitoring and reconciliation of outstanding receivables where applicable.
  • Follow up on outstanding financial documentation and transactions.
  • Assist in resolving discrepancies relating to invoices, payments and account balances.
  1. Budgeting and Cost Control
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets, operational budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Monitor actual expenditure against approved budgets and identify significant variances.
  • Prepare cost analyses and expenditure reports for review by the Head of Finance.
  • Support the monitoring of operational costs, including fuel, maintenance, utilities, labour and other station expenses.
  • Identify opportunities for improved cost control and efficient utilisation of financial resources.
  1. Financial Reporting
  • Prepare accurate and timely daily, weekly, monthly and other periodic financial reports as required.
  • Support the preparation of management accounts and financial performance reports.
  • Analyse financial data and highlight significant trends, variances and areas requiring management attention.
  • Maintain financial schedules, records and supporting documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Provide timely financial information to support operational and management decision-making.
  1. Reconciliations and Financial Controls
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts, cash, advances, supplier accounts and other relevant financial records.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of effective internal financial controls.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties and compliance with approval limits and financial procedures.
  • Report control weaknesses, irregularities or potential financial risks to the Head of Finance.
  1. Operational and Cost Monitoring
  • Monitor financial transactions and costs associated with the day-to-day operations of the Transfer Station.
  • Support the tracking and analysis of key operational expenses.
  • Work with relevant departments to obtain accurate information for cost allocation and financial reporting.
  • Monitor the use of operational resources and support the identification of unusual or excessive expenditure.
  • Provide financial support and analysis for operational improvement initiatives.
  1. Compliance and Audit Support
  • Ensure financial activities comply with company policies, procedures and applicable statutory requirements.
  • Maintain organised and complete financial records to support internal and external audits.
  • Provide required documentation and information during audits and financial reviews.
  • Support the implementation and follow-up of audit recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity in the handling of financial information.
  1. Asset and Inventory Support
  • Support the maintenance of accurate financial records relating to fixed assets and other assigned resources.
  • Assist with periodic verification of assets and financial records.
  • Support the monitoring and reconciliation of relevant inventory and stock records where applicable.
  • Report discrepancies relating to assets, inventory or financial records.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained for asset additions, transfers and disposals.
  1. Financial Records and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, registers and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare periodic financial summaries and reports for submission to the Head of Finance.
  • Monitor assigned financial KPIs and support the preparation of finance dashboards.
  • Ensure financial information is submitted accurately and within required timelines.
  • Support the Head of Finance with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requirements.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Ideal Profile

The Finance Officer should ensure that the financial activities of the Transfer Station are accurately recorded, properly controlled and reported in a timely manner. The role should support strong financial discipline, effective cost control, compliance with approved financial procedures and the availability of reliable financial information to support operational and management decision-making.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline. A professional accounting qualification or part qualification such as ACCA, ICA Ghana, CIMA or equivalent is an advantage.

3–5 years of relevant finance or accounting experience, preferably including experience in a similar operational or industrial environment.

Industry Experience

Waste management, logistics, manufacturing, transport, construction, heavy industry or similar operational environments is an advantage.

Technical Knowledge

Financial accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, budgeting, cost control, bank and account reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, internal controls, audit processes, financial analysis and accounting systems.

SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills: Ability to accurately analyse financial information, identify variances and resolve discrepancies.
  • Attention to detail: Strong ability to maintain accuracy and completeness in financial records and transactions.
  • Planning and organisational skills: Ability to manage multiple financial tasks and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Integrity and confidentiality: High level of honesty, discretion and professionalism in handling financial information and resources.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate financial information clearly and work effectively with operational and support teams.
  • Personal attributes: Accountability, discipline, accuracy, initiative, attention to detail and a strong commitment to compliance and continuous improvement.
