About The Role
REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Tyre Inspection and Assessment
- Conduct routine inspections of tyres and tubes on assigned tricycles and other operational vehicles.
- Identify punctures, leaks, excessive wear, cuts, damage and other tyre-related defects.
- Assess tyre condition and recommend repair, rotation or replacement where necessary.
- Report tyres that are unsafe or unsuitable for continued use.
- Support regular checks to minimise tyre-related breakdowns during operations.
- Tyre Repair and Vulcanizing
- Carry out puncture repairs, vulcanizing and other approved tyre repair activities.
- Repair or replace damaged tubes, valves and other related tyre components where required.
- Ensure repairs are completed to acceptable quality and safety standards.
- Test repaired tyres before returning them to operational use.
- Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns and emergency repair requirements.
- Tyre Removal and Replacement
- Remove and fit tyres safely using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Replace worn-out, damaged or unserviceable tyres as authorised.
- Ensure tyres are correctly fitted, inflated and secured before vehicles return to service.
- Assist with tyre rotation and other activities aimed at extending tyre lifespan.
- Ensure removed and replaced tyres are properly accounted for and stored in designated areas.
- Tyre Maintenance and Preventive Care
- Support routine preventive maintenance activities relating to tyres and wheels.
- Check and maintain appropriate tyre pressure in accordance with operational requirements.
- Identify wheel, rim or related defects that may affect tyre performance.
- Report mechanical or alignment issues requiring further technical attention.
- Promote proper tyre care to reduce premature wear, punctures and unnecessary replacements.
- Tyre Inventory and Records Management
- Maintain accurate records of tyres repaired, replaced and issued.
- Keep records of tyre sizes, conditions and usage where required.
- Monitor available stock of tyres, tubes, valves and other vulcanizing materials.
- Report shortages and submit requests for required tyre materials and consumables.
- Ensure used, damaged and unserviceable tyres are properly segregated and accounted for.
- Workshop Housekeeping and Tool Management
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe vulcanizing work area.
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly used, stored and maintained.
- Report defective tools or equipment requiring repair or replacement.
- Ensure flammable materials, chemicals and other maintenance materials are properly handled and stored.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards at all times.
- Safety and Compliance
- Carry out all tyre repair and maintenance activities in accordance with approved safety procedures.
- Use appropriate PPE and safe working practices at all times.
- Ensure tyres are properly secured and safely handled during inflation, removal and fitting.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses and equipment defects promptly.
- Support the implementation of safety instructions and corrective actions within the assigned work area.
- Operational Support
- Respond promptly to tyre-related issues that may affect the availability of tricycles and operational vehicles.
- Prioritise repairs based on operational urgency and instructions from the Operations Supervisor.
- Coordinate with operators and relevant technical personnel on vehicle and tyre-related concerns.
- Minimise vehicle downtime by ensuring timely inspection and repair of tyres.
- Support the continuous availability of tricycles required for waste collection operations.
- Reporting and Communication
- Provide regular updates to the Operations Supervisor on completed repairs and outstanding tyre issues.
- Report recurring tyre failures, unusual wear patterns and other significant concerns.
- Maintain daily records of tyre-related maintenance activities.
- Escalate major tyre, wheel or vehicle defects requiring further technical intervention.
- Provide relevant information to support maintenance planning and operational decision-making.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Ideal Profile
The Vulcanizer should ensure that tyres and tubes on tricycles and other assigned operational vehicles remain safe, reliable and serviceable to support uninterrupted waste collection and transportation activities. The role should minimise tyre-related breakdowns, reduce unnecessary tyre replacement costs and contribute to the efficient availability and utilisation of the Transfer Station's operational fleet.
Education and Experience
Technical or vocational qualification in Auto Mechanics, Tyre Repair and Maintenance, Vulcanizing or a related technical discipline is an advantage.
2–4 years of practical experience in tyre repair, vulcanizing, vehicle tyre maintenance or a similar role. Experience working with tricycles, commercial vehicles or heavy-duty equipment is an advantage.
Industry Experience
Automotive services, transport, logistics, waste management, fleet operations, construction, heavy equipment or similar operational environments.
Technical Knowledge
Tyre inspection and assessment, puncture repair, vulcanizing, tyre fitting and removal, tube and valve replacement, tyre pressure management, wheel and rim inspection, basic preventive maintenance, tyre inventory management and workshop safety.

- Technical competence and attention to detail: Ability to accurately identify tyre defects and carry out quality repairs.
- Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve tyre-related issues efficiently.
- Time management and responsiveness: Ability to prioritise urgent repairs and minimise vehicle downtime.
- Teamwork and communication: Ability to work effectively with tricycle operators, supervisors and other operational personnel.
- Personal attributes: Reliability, discipline, accountability, safety consciousness, initiative and a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
