About The Role
The Technical Trainer facilitates instructor-led, virtual, and hands-on training programs in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), supporting Clarke Fire employees, customers, service dealers, OEMs, and field technicians nationwide. This role combines technical training delivery with responsibility for developing, maintaining, and managing accurate, current technical documentation across the organization.
Working within office, classroom, manufacturing, and field environments, the Technical Trainer utilizes Learning Management Systems (LMS), Microsoft Office applications, and other training technologies to create, update, and deliver technical training content. The position partners closely with SMEs, Engineering, Production, and Customer Support teams to ensure training materials, procedures, and documentation reflect current products, processes, and operational best practices.
The role requires regular presence on the manufacturing floor to observe equipment, evaluate internal procedures, validate training content, and maintain a thorough understanding of product design, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The Technical Trainer conducts classroom and hands-on training sessions, including demonstrations of equipment operation, maintenance practices, and diagnostic procedures in a factory training environment.
The position requires frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders and strong communication skills to effectively deliver technical information to diverse audiences. Travel is required to customer locations, service dealer facilities, trade events, and other training venues to support customer education initiatives and technical training programs. Flexibility to accommodate overnight travel and vary training schedules based on customer and business needs is essential.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Training Execution: Lead in-house factory training courses and fulfill training requests from pump OEM customers and service dealers nationwide, maintaining high training standards and meeting customer expectations.
- Event & Logistics Management: Coordinate hospitality, facility readiness, participant communications, and materials for in-house factory training events.
- Curriculum & Materials Development: Develop training materials and assessments, and document essential curriculum content in partnership with SMEs.
- Technical Documentation Management: Manage and maintain technical documents including operation manuals and service bulletins; as directed by the Engineering department. Ensure documentation is current, accurate, properly version-controlled, and accessible to internal teams, service dealers, and customers. Coordinate with Engineering to incorporate updates and revisions in a timely manner.
- Administration & Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for training inquiries, manage course registrations and payment processing, and maintain training records and attendance documentation.
- Evaluation & Improvement: Evaluate learner performance and collect participant feedback to drive continuous improvement in training delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and learning technologies.
- Strong organizational, presentation, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated technical and/or mechanical experience in the diesel engine, power generation, fire protection, or related industrial equipment industry.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, schematics, and service documentation.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to support training delivery and business requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience developing and delivering instructor-led, hands-on, and virtual training programs.
- Previous experience as a technical trainer, field service technician, mechanic, or subject matter expert.
- Strong classroom facilitation and presentation skills.
- Ability to build credibility and effectively engage with technicians, dealers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
- Effective project management, planning, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ability to adapt training content and delivery methods to meet the needs of diverse audience and learning environments.
- Working knowledge of diesel engine systems, mechanical components, fire pump systems, fire suppression equipment, or related technologies.
- Hands-on troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair experience.
