About The Role

2nd W/K Engineer for Dredger

  • Responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation and maintenance of the vessel’s main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors and associated machinery.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in the overall management of the Engine Room and machinery operations.
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical and auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitor machinery performance, operating parameters, fuel consumption, lubrication and cooling systems.
  • Ensure all machinery is operated in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, vessel procedures and Class/Flag requirements.
  • Take responsibility for assigned machinery and ensure equipment is maintained in a safe and operational condition.
  • Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of dredging-related machinery and systems, including pumps, hydraulic systems and power transmission equipment.
  • Supervise engine-room ratings and provide clear instructions during maintenance and operational activities.
  • Maintain accurate engine-room logs, maintenance records, checklists and technical documentation.
  • Participate in planned maintenance, overhauls, breakdown repairs and machinery testing.
  • Ensure proper management and availability of spares, tools, lubricants and consumables.
  • Support bunkering, fuel transfer, machinery trials and other engine-room operations as required.
  • Respond effectively to machinery breakdowns, alarms and emergency situations.
  • Ensure compliance with ISM, SMS, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class and Flag State requirements relevant to the position.
  • Maintain high standards of engine-room safety, housekeeping and pollution prevention.
  • Conduct risk assessments and follow Permit to Work, Lock-Out/Tag-Out and safe working procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Engineer, Dredge Master, Electrical/Technical teams and shore-based management.
  • Participate in emergency drills and maintain readiness of emergency and safety equipment.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, teamwork and operational discipline onboard.
  • Perform other engineering duties reasonably assigned by the Chief Engineer or Technical Superintendent.
  • Bachelor's degree in marine/mechanical engineering.
  • Certified as 2nd Engineer in accordance with STCW regulation.
  • Basic & advanced STCW trainings.
  • Medical fitness certificate as per ILO/MLC requirement.
