About The Role

A multidisciplinary engineering firm is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its team in Lexington, Kentucky.

This is a Lead Engineering role for an experienced Professional Engineer who enjoys technical design, project leadership, client interaction, and mentoring junior engineers. This individual will serve as a senior technical resource and project leader but will not have direct reports .

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will work collaboratively with other engineering and design professionals on a variety of building and infrastructure projects while helping strengthen existing client relationships and support successful project delivery.

This position is ideal for a senior engineer who wants to remain highly involved in technical engineering and project delivery while also serving as a trusted resource for clients and junior team members.

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will act as a Lead Engineer and mentor without direct-report responsibilities .

Success in this position will require a combination of technical expertise, project leadership, communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients .

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical engineering and design of building and infrastructure projects
  • Design electrical power distribution, lighting, telecommunications, audio/visual, and related building systems
  • Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and system selection for various voltage systems
  • Prepare and review electrical construction documents, specifications, drawings, and technical calculations
  • Provide construction administration throughout project delivery
  • Coordinate electrical designs with other engineering and design disciplines
  • Serve as a senior technical resource throughout project design and construction
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff
  • Plan project resources and maintain project schedules and budgets
  • Perform technical and quality-control reviews
  • Communicate directly with clients, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with current clients to support long-term partnerships and continued project opportunities
  • Understand client needs and help ensure projects consistently meet technical, schedule, budget, and service expectations
  • Participate in client meetings, project presentations, and other relationship-building activities
  • Support business development efforts through strong project delivery and ongoing client engagement

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration in at least one U.S. state
  • Ability to obtain PE registration in additional states through reciprocity/comity as needed
  • 15+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • Significant experience designing facilities and providing construction administration within an engineering or design consulting environment
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and team members is required
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building, electrical, and fire codes and standards
  • Experience with electrical calculations, equipment sizing, and system selection for different voltage systems
  • Ability to independently lead the technical aspects of complex projects
  • Experience managing project schedules, resources, and budgets
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary project team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Experience with Revit
  • Experience with electrical design and analysis software
  • Experience with lighting design software
  • Experience working on a variety of commercial, institutional, or infrastructure projects
  • Previous client relationship management or business development experience
  • Experience leading complex electrical design projects from concept through construction
