We’re searching for an exceptional Sample Preparation Trainer to manage all our training at our sample preparation facility in Kalgoorlie.
This isn’t just a training role – it’s a chance to demonstrate your L&D skills and shape a team culture, grow careers, and improve the safety, quality and production of the entire facility.
The day to day
Responsibilities include
- Train all sample preparers to ensure correct processes are followed as outlined in published policies/procedures/methods, for the following:
- Operating various sample preparation equipment safely and following procedures outlined in associated QWIs.
- Operate Orbis and Boyd Crushers to achieve desired specification for end product.
- Sorting received samples as per client’s submission form, noting any discrepancies on Sample Sorting Sheet.
- Barcode labelling of sorted samples and received sample weight capture to GEMS interface.
- Transferring scanned samples to drying racks.
- Using crush, riffle, split and sieve equipment after drying samples at specified temperature.
- Informing Supervisors where problems occur (e.g. excessively wet samples, machinery breakdown, delays, incorrect labelling etc).
- Maintaining machinery and equipment in accordance with manufacturers guides.
- Ensure work areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Provide regular feedback to staff regarding compliance with production targets, priorities and quality.
- Support implementation of all site HSE training and competency schedules
- Perform any other related tasks overseeing the sample preparation staff and facilities.
The essentials
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities
- Previous sample preparation experience will be an advantage
- Knowledge of HSE and Quality compliance and practices
- Demonstrated ability to communicate instructions to staff and ensure understanding
- Excellent attention to detail
- Mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting
- Understanding of production targets
- Willing to work in a dusty and noisy environment
- Always set a high example and deliver quality service
- Forklift licence (advantageous but not essential)
- Qualification in Training & Assessment, and/or HSE or Quality (advantageous but not essential)
