About the GI Lab
Join a high-volume GI Lab specializing in diagnostic and advanced therapeutic gastrointestinal procedures. Our department provides safe, efficient, patient-centered care through interdisciplinary collaboration, technical expertise, and continuous improvement.
Our team includes gastroenterologists, anesthesia providers, registered nurses, GI Specialty Technicians, clinical partners, administrative staff, and department leadership. Together, we support general GI and complex interventional procedures, with a strong focus on patient safety, procedural efficiency, proper endoscope reprocessing, equipment readiness, and timely access to care.
What You Will Do
As a Specialty Technician III, you will provide technical support before, during, and after GI procedures while working closely with physicians, RNs, anesthesia providers, and other members of the procedural team.
Key responsibilities include
- Provide technical support for general and specialty patient populations while assisting the RN in implementing each patient’s plan of care.
- Prioritize responsibilities, physician requests, and interdepartmental procedures as directed by the RN.
- Operate, assemble, maintain, and safely handle equipment and instruments used in the assigned area.
- Identify equipment malfunctions, troubleshoot issues, and initiate repairs as appropriate.
- Monitor and maintain equipment, instruments, and supply inventory within the assigned area.
- Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and role model for students, new hires, and Specialty Technicians.
- Coordinate orientation, education, and in-service training in collaboration with educators and team leaders.
- Participate in staff meetings, departmental committees, performance-improvement activities, and decisions related to equipment and supply acquisition.
- Support departmental efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and budget-development initiatives.
- Promote patient safety by using two patient identifiers, implementing fall-prevention measures, and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment.
- Maintain appropriate perioperative standards, including aseptic technique, electrical safety, waste management, traffic control, and sterile-field practices.
- Follow applicable hand-hygiene, infection-prevention, and isolation policies to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
- Advocate for patients, protect patient rights, and deliver responsive, patient-centered care.
- Support procedures including EGD, colonoscopy, EUS, ERCP, and other complex GI procedures.
- Handle and transport endoscopes safely and appropriately.
- Perform endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection (HLD).
- Support efficient room turnover between procedures
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three years of applicable experience/equivalent on-the-job training assisting with pancreatic and general endoscopic therapeutic procedures.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician program.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
- GI/endoscopy experience, including scope reprocessing/HLD, advanced and interventional GI procedures, procedural equipment, and equipment troubleshooting.
