Sr Adavnced Hardware Design Engineer – ATE / Electronic Test (12–18 Years)
Job Summary
We are looking for a Sr Advanced Hardware Design Engineer with 12–18 years of experience in ATE hardware design and aerospace electronic test systems. This role is responsible for leading complex test hardware development programs covering architecture definition, detailed design, integration, documentation governance, deployment support, MSA readiness, electronic test strategy contribution, and test process compliance for aerospace products. The ideal candidate should have strong depth in instrumentation-based test hardware, cross-functional leadership capability, and experience in high-reliability development environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead hardware design and development of complex ATE systems and subsystems for aerospace products, including instrumentation integration, switching architectures, interface units, signal conditioning, control electronics, and power distribution networks.
- Own hardware execution across functional test, structural test, ESS, qualification testing, production testing, and development testing programs.
- Define hardware architecture, design approach, interface concepts, power strategies, grounding/shielding philosophy, and build/readiness requirements.
- Drive preparation, review, and approval of schematics, interface documents, interconnect documentation, BOMs, design calculations, verification plans, and release packages.
- Lead integration, bring-up, debugging, verification, and troubleshooting of complex ATE hardware during development, validation, and deployment.
- Coordinate with software, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, and project engineering teams to ensure complete and robust test system realization.
- Drive technical reviews, design reviews, issue resolution forums, risk assessments, and engineering change implementation.
- Oversee hardware deployment readiness, installation support, field issue analysis, sustainment planning, and lessons-learned incorporation.
- Lead or guide MSA activities including measurement capability assessment, GR&R, calibration governance, correlation studies, and measurement system performance evaluation.
- Contribute significantly to electronic test strategy by aligning hardware architectures with coverage, scalability, maintainability, test efficiency, and lifecycle requirements.
- Ensure adherence to test process compliance, engineering governance, release discipline, and aerospace documentation and traceability expectations.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in hardware design practices, review preparedness, and technical problem solving.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 12–18 years of relevant experience in ATE hardware design engineering, test systems engineering, or aerospace/defense test hardware development.
- Strong experience in managing complex hardware design and integration activities for automated test systems.
- Hands-on exposure to qualification, ESS, structural, functional, development, and production test environments.
- Deep understanding of instrumentation integration, switching systems, power architectures, signal integrity, grounding/shielding, and documentation control.
- Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams, technical reviews, and project execution in controlled environments.
- Good understanding of deployment, sustainment, MSA, and process compliance requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with complex or multi-station automated test platforms and modular hardware architectures.
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense standards, compliance expectations, and high-reliability hardware design practices.
- Strong knowledge of MSA, GR&R, calibration governance, uncertainty, correlation, and data integrity considerations.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC mitigation, thermal considerations, safety design, maintainability, and serviceability in test hardware.
- Exposure to PLM/PDM systems, risk management practices, issue tracking, and change control tools.
- Ability to drive hardware standardization, reuse, platform approaches, and process compliance maturity.
Leadership Expectations
- Provide technical leadership for complex ATE hardware programs across development and deployment phases.
- Drive schedule adherence, design review quality, and closure of technical risks and issues.
- Ensure governance of engineering documentation, release readiness, and compliance expectations.
- Mentor engineering teams and promote disciplined design, validation, and documentation practices.
- Serve as a key technical interface between hardware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and program stakeholders.
