Our Retail, Networks and Water business unit helps regulated utilities and adjacent organisations improve performance, deliver transformation, and strengthen outcomes for customers. We’re at the heart of these industries, driving meaningful and lasting improvement.
We are looking for Senior Consultants to join our thriving and award-winning retail energy practice. Our Energy practice is a dynamic, award-winning team of experts dedicated to tackling the Utilities sector’s most pressing and public-facing challenges, including driving the transition to Net Zero. Our clients rely on deep industry experience, knowledge and insight coupled with a hands-on, pragmatic delivery approach to solve their challenges. We are growing our Retail Energy team, supporting clients with market reform, customer operations and large-scale transformation across different customer types, including domestic, SME and B2B customers. Our work helps clients navigate a period of significant industry change, including Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement, smart metering, affordability pressures, regulatory change and evolving customer expectations.
What you will be doing
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of this sector alongside our team of market specialists, broadening your skillset and expertise within retail energy.
You will work primarily within our Retail Energy go-to-market, while also having the opportunity to contribute to projects across the wider utilities sector where your skills and experience are relevant.
You will be a trusted advisor for our clients, helping them identify, assess, design and implement solutions to their most complex business challenges.
You will be a key part of our project teams responsible for scoping and delivering complex, multi-faceted change programmes under challenging market conditions.
You will work frequently in industry within high-visibility areas, collaborating closely with Baringa and client project teams.
You will support customer and operational transformation programmes across areas such as billing, debt, affordability, vulnerability, field services, data, digital and regulatory change.
You will conduct structured analysis, build insight from data and translate findings into clear recommendations for client and internal stakeholders.
You will support the design and implementation of practical improvements to processes, customer journeys, controls, operating models and supporting systems and technology, helping ensure that change delivers the intended operational and customer outcomes.
You will help clients understand consumer outcomes, commercial value, operational performance and regulatory requirements.
You will contribute to bids, proposals and client relationship development, bringing insight from our international retail energy client portfolio.
You are comfortable with travel to client sites as needed (typically 1–2 days per week, varying by project) and value hybrid working with purposeful time together.
Your skills and experience
You will have a minimum of three years’ experience in a utilities retailer, management consultancy, strategic delivery role or adjacent energy industry environment, including experience delivering projects or complex change.
Consulting experience is not required, but you will demonstrate the core capabilities needed to succeed in an advisory environment, including structured problem solving, analytical rigour, strong client judgement and the ability to develop high-quality insights and recommendations.
You may have experience in one or more of customer affordability, consumer vulnerability, debt management, billing, revenue assurance, field services, market reform, regulatory change or technology-enabled customer transformation.
You will have the ability to develop and maintain deep, trusted relationships with clients and colleagues across the sector.
You will have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-specialists.
