GFL Environmental is looking for a Route Supervisor to join our team in Edmonton, AB!

Requirements

  • Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver’s License with air endorsement and a clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Operations Experience: Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience. 2-3 years of supervisory experience. Experience working with Side-loaders, Rear Packers, Front End, and Roll Off vehicles is preferred.
  • Previous operations, transportation, or waste management experience preferred.
  • Safety Commitment: Ability to successfully satisfy all company standards for safety-sensitive operational roles. Able to perform pre and post trip inspections and accident investigations.
  • Reliability: Flexibility to support early morning start schedules and operational overtime when needed. Ability to plan, prioritize and execute against tight timelines.
  • Technical Ability: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient with database, spreadsheet, and word processing computer skills within a Google Workspace environment. Previous knowledge and experience with dispatch programs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safe Fleet Operation: Ongoing “sit-in” driver training to assess any poor driving habits, road- rage, excessive braking, possibly fuel cost savings, etc., conduct regular driver reviews.
  • Safety Inspections: Ensure thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, trip logs and paperwork are completed daily. Ensure company policy, systems, and industry related training is delivered to all drivers. Perform Accident Investigations when company vehicles are involved in traffic accidents.
  • Delivering Excellence: Act as a direct liaison between dispatch and drivers to ensure information regarding daily schedules, equipment and service requirements is efficiently relayed. Attain all of the necessary information regarding any issues by maintaining courteous, prompt and efficient customer relations with residents.
  • System Operations: Ensure company policy, systems, and industry related training is delivered to all drivers.
  • Reporting & Maintenance: Promptly respond to any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents. Direct communication with other departments to ensure proper ongoing service and upkeep of all units is maintained including safety devices, vehicle lighting, warning devices, fittings, safety supplies.
  • Service Quality: Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards. Direct supervision of all drivers, ensuring ongoing training requirements, discipline and procedural implementation.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Drivers, Dispatchers and Customer Service to support smooth, efficient daily operations. Assist with and recommend annual equipment budget; implement and monitor the budget within approved limits.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
