You’ll join the team behind the infrastructure and platform services that power thousands of Zillow applications and experiences. We build and operate scalable, reliable, and secure systems in a cloud-native, microservices-based environment, while creating tools and automation that help engineers move faster with confidence. Working closely with product and engineering partners across Zillow, our team improves availability, performance, and developer productivity through thoughtful systems design and operational excellence.

About the role

The Senior Specialist, Software Engineering, Systems designs, builds, and operates scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure and platform services that support thousands of Zillow applications and services. This role leads complex systems engineering initiatives, automates infrastructure and deployment workflows, and partners closely with product and engineering teams to improve availability, performance, and developer productivity across a cloud-native, microservices-based environment.

You will get to

  • Improve the Security, resilience, and compliance posture of infrastructure and systems by implementing controls, performing reviews, and collaborating with Security and compliance partners.
  • Partner with software engineering teams to design operable services, Guide adoption of platform capabilities, and mentor engineers on systems engineering and operational excellence.
  • Partner with software engineering, Security, and product teams to define non-functional requirements (availability, scalability, resiliency) and translate them into system designs.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, capacity, and cost, implementing observability best practices and responding to complex production incidents to restore service quickly.
  • Architect, implement, and Maintain cloud-based infrastructure and platform services that support large-scale, distributed applications in a microservices environment.
  • Lead the design and automation of CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and infrastructure-as-code to improve deployment reliability, speed, and repeatability by leveraging AI Tools.
  • Lead design and automation of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and configuration management to improve reliability, Security, and deployment speed.
  • Drive observability, performance, and capacity improvements by enhancing monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident response practices across systems.
  • Mentor engineers on systems design, DevOps/SRE practices, and operational excellence, modeling effective incident and change management behaviors.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across the stack, performing root cause analysis and driving preventative improvements.
  • Architect, implement, and Maintain cloud-native infrastructure and platform services that support large-scale, distributed applications.

This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and instead work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live anywhere in Mexico, with availability to travel to Mexico City, as we recommend attendance at occasional office events.

In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, site reliability engineering, DevOps, or related software engineering roles supporting large-scale, distributed systems in cloud environments.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and operating cloud-based infrastructure (for example, AWS, GCP, or Azure), container orchestration (for example, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code tools (for example, Terraform or similar).
  • Experience designing, implementing, and operating infrastructure and services using technologies such as Public cloud platforms, containers, orchestration, CI/CD, and observability tooling.
  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, site reliability engineering, DevOps, or systems engineering supporting highly available, large-scale applications.
  • Experience with at least one modern programming or scripting language (for example, Python, Go, Java, or similar) to build tooling and automate operations.
  • Experience with modern observability practices, including metrics, logging, tracing, and incident response in production environments.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to Deliver stable, scalable, and secure platforms and services.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automation for application and infrastructure deployments.
  • Experience using AI to build software and workflows for infrastructure and productivity.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
