About The Role

The Manager, Material & Supply Planning is responsible for the strategic leadership, integration, and performance of the Material Resource Planning and Supply Planning functions at Vancouver Shipyards. The role ensures material demand, supply, planning data, and material structures are aligned with shipbuilding program requirements, production schedules, inventory strategies, and corporate supply chain objectives.

The Manager is accountable for establishing planning standards, processes, governance, resources, and continuous improvement initiatives that support vessel construction programs. The role acts as a key interface between Supply Chain, Engineering, Procurement, Production, Planning, Warehousing, and Program Management to ensure material availability while optimizing cost, inventory, and operational performance.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do

Establish strategic direction, goals, priorities, performance measures, and operating standards for the VSY Material Planning and Supply Planning functions.
Provide oversight of vessel material structures, material master data, Bills of Material (BOMs), manufacturing BOMs.
Ensure material planning activities support program schedules, production milestones, engineering requirements, procurement activities, and financial objectives.
Oversee the development and maintenance of material planning work packages, material demand schedules, and planning data required for efficient production execution.
Ensure material planning standards, procedures, and data quality controls are established and maintained across all programs.
Monitor the integrity and accuracy of material planning and MRP data in collaboration with Engineering, Procurement, Planning, and Production teams.
Establish and govern supply planning and material demand planning processes that support program execution and enterprise supply chain objectives.
Ensure material demand is effectively translated from engineering outputs, BOMs, inventory requirements, and production schedules into actionable supply plans.
Oversee inventory planning strategies, order policies, fulfillment approaches, storage strategies, and material allocation decisions across programs.
Lead the development and continuous improvement of supply planning processes, procedures, and governance frameworks.
Ensure planning methodologies support maximum material availability while optimizing procurement, transportation, inventory, and storage costs.
Lead collaboration across Engineering, Planning, Procurement, Production, Operations, Warehousing, and Program teams to ensure alignment of material requirements and supply strategies.
Serve as the primary escalation point for planning-related risks, constraints, and issues affecting program delivery.
Ensure material planning and supply planning processes are integrated with broader enterprise systems, technology roadmaps, and business processes.
Support bid development, program planning, and strategic initiatives through the provision of planning expertise and resource forecasting.
Accountable for departmental resource planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control activities.
Act as Control Account Manager (CAM) for assigned planning scopes and ensure adherence to program budgets and schedules.
Monitor key performance indicators related to material availability, inventory levels, plan accuracy, schedule adherence, and planning productivity.
Provide regular updates, reports, and executive-level briefings on departmental performance, risks, and improvement initiatives.

What you'll bring

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
10+ years of progressive experience in supply planning, material planning, inventory management, demand planning, or related supply chain functions in a complex manufacturing environment.
5+ years of leadership experience managing multi-functional planning teams.
Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and supply chain planning systems.
Experience leading cross-functional process design, organizational change, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience working within large-scale manufacturing, industrial, marine, aerospace, defense, or heavy-equipment environments is preferred.
Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), program scheduling, and project controls is considered an asset.
Experience with planning and scheduling tools such as Primavera, Microsoft Project, SAP, Oracle, IFS, or equivalent systems is preferred.
Strong interpersonal, facilitation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $135,000 - $165,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
