About The Role

Position Title: Machine Operator - Preprint

Category/Shift

The Machine Operator works as part of the production team supporting the safe and efficient operation of high-speed printing and production equipment within the Tucker Preprint facility. This position is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining production equipment while meeting established safety, quality, productivity, and waste standards.

Hourly Full-Time: 12-hour rotating shifts (every 13 weeks)

Shifts: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM (Sunday - Wednesday and Wednesday - Saturday)

Range: $20.98 - $21.84 per hour

The Job You Will Perform

  • Safely operate and monitor high-speed automated printing and production equipment, including Allstein press equipment.
  • Perform machine setup, start-up, operation, changeovers, and shutdown activities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitor machine performance and make appropriate operating adjustments to maintain production, quality, and efficiency standards.
  • Perform routine quality checks throughout the production process to ensure finished product meets customer specifications and established quality requirements.
  • Monitor print quality, registration, color, material condition, and other critical production specifications.
  • Identify defects, equipment abnormalities, and process issues and take appropriate action or escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Enter and maintain accurate production, quality, downtime, waste, and process information in applicable systems.
  • Perform operator-level preventive maintenance, inspections, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting as required.
  • Assist with identifying causes of equipment downtime and support maintenance personnel during troubleshooting.
  • Follow all published Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area using established housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on safety, quality, productivity, waste reduction, and equipment reliability.
  • Communicate equipment status, production issues, quality concerns, and other relevant information during shift handoffs.
  • Work effectively as part of a production team and communicate appropriately with operators, maintenance, supervision, and other support functions.
  • Participate in required training and demonstrate the ability to learn computerized manufacturing and production systems.
  • Follow all machine guarding, lockout/tagout, PPE, and other applicable safety requirements.
  • Stop work and immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or quality concerns.
  • Assisted lifting is required for objects weighing more than 50 pounds or for any object that cannot be safely or comfortably lifted by one person.

The Skills You Will Bring

  • Manufacturing or industrial production experience is preferred but not required.
  • Printing, flexographic printing, graphic arts, or similar manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and following established procedures.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn complex automated production equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment and process issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, including specifications, measurements, data tracking, and machine settings.
  • Strong mathematical, mechanical, perceptual, and visualization skills.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, production specifications, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn computerized manufacturing systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
