Patient Care Technician I- Per-Diem, Varied Shifts, Emergency Department, Atlantic Health Newton Medical Center

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in supporting physicians and nursing staff by ensuring that patients’ basic clinical and personal care needs are met. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT provides direct patient care, assists with clinical procedures, and observes and reports changes in patient condition to promote safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Principal Accountabilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, feeding, grooming, toileting, and dressing
• Obtain and accurately record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight
• Assist patients with mobility and physical activities, including ambulation, transfers, range of motion (ROM), and discharges
• Perform post‑mortem care according to established protocols
• Conduct clinical support tasks such as:
• EKGs
• Phlebotomy
• Blood glucose monitoring
• Observe patients for changes in physical condition, behavior, or mental status and promptly report concerns to the RN
• Maintain, clean, and stock phlebotomy equipment and supplies
• Support patient safety, comfort, and dignity at all times
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support unit operations

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Ability to perform basic clinical skills such as vital signs, patient transfers, and ADLs
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and observational skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary care team
• Physical ability to assist with patient mobility and stand/walk for extended periods

Preferred

• Previous experience in an acute care or hospital setting
• Experience with phlebotomy, EKGs, and glucose monitoring
• CNA certification or equivalent
• Interest in pursuing a long‑term career in healthcare or nursing
