Work location: Stafford, TX (on-site- contract role only for 6+ months)
Scope
Machinist II is responsible for independently setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC machining processes to produce precision components. This role requires advanced knowledge of machining practices, strong G- and M-code proficiency, and the ability to lead process improvements and mentor junior machinists
Job Summary
Perform complex setups on CNC mills/lathes, interpret advanced engineering drawings, optimize machining offsets or work coordinates, and ensure part quality through rigorous inspection. Machinists II are expected to lead troubleshooting efforts, support programming activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining safety and documentation standards.
- Lead setup and operation of CNC machines (mills/lathes, EDM) for complex parts and tight tolerances.
- Independently set up and operate CNC equipment (mills/lathes) for complex production and prototype jobs.
- Load, edit, and optimize CNC programs using advanced G- and M-code knowledge.
- Interpret detailed engineering drawings, routings, and GD\&T specifications.
- Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using advanced precision measurement tools.
- Collaborate with programmers and engineers to improve cycle times, tool paths, and part quality.
- Train and mentor Machinist 1 team members on setup, tooling, and inspection techniques.
- Maintain equipment through preventive maintenance and support 5S initiatives.
- Document production data per GDP and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Support lean manufacturing and Kaizen activities to improve throughput and reduce waste.
- Ensure compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) by accurately recording all production data, using legible handwriting, dating and signing entries, and avoiding unauthorized corrections.
- Report any safety hazards or documentation discrepancies immediately to the supervisor.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas to prevent accidents and ensure line clearance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced understanding of machining principles, materials, and tooling.
- Advanced proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, GD\&T, and technical documentation.
- Skilled in using and calibrating precision measurement tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced knowledge of G-code and M-code programming
- Hands-on experience with Fanuc CNC controls
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Work Environment
- Standing for extended periods.
- Exposure to noise, lubricants, and metal shavings.
- Occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
Experience
- 3-5 years of machining experience; extensive CNC experience required.
- Experience in process optimization and team leadership preferred.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Advanced technical training or certification in machining is strongly preferred.
