About the Role
We’re looking for a Category Manager to take end-to-end ownership of one or more categories within eBay Live Germany . Reporting to the Category Lead, you will operate as the business owner for your categories — accountable for their commercial performance, strategy, and execution.
You will develop a deep understanding of your categories, customers, sellers, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities, set priorities, and mobilize cross-functional partners behind them. In a rapidly evolving Live Commerce environment, you will be expected to operate proactively, experiment, learn quickly, and adapt as we build the playbook for Live in Germany.
What You’ll Do
- Own your categories end-to-end: Take accountability for category strategy, GMV and commercial performance, defining where to play, how to win, and the actions required to deliver sustainable growth.
- Shape the seller and inventory strategy: Determine the seller mix, inventory, and supply required to win your categories. Set clear acquisition, activation, retention, and growth priorities for Business Development and Account Management teams , provide commercial direction, and ensure investments and agreements deliver against business objectives and ROI.
- Drive demand and programming: Identify opportunities across programming, buyer experience, marketing, and demand generation, partnering with relevant teams to build compelling category propositions and unlock scalable growth.
- Own performance management and reporting: Forecast and track category performance, diagnose drivers and blockers, and independently deliver business reviews and leadership reporting with a clear point of view on what is happening, why, and what needs to happen next .
- Lead cross-functional execution: Mobilize BD, AM, Programming, Marketing, Product, Operations, and other partners around category priorities, navigating competing needs, constructively challenging assumptions, removing blockers, and driving accountability for outcomes.
- Build the category playbook: Stay close to customer behavior, seller models, competitors, and emerging Live and social commerce trends; proactively identify opportunities, form hypotheses, and test, learn, iterate, and pivot to establish new growth levers.
Who You Are
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in category management, commercial roles, e-commerce, marketplaces, strategy, business development, management consulting, or a similarly analytical and commercially focused environment.
- A strong commercial operator with an ownership mindset , comfortable carrying a number, understanding business economics and ROI, making trade-offs, and setting commercial direction.
- Highly analytical and operationally rigorous , able to independently forecast performance, identify underlying drivers and opportunities, and turn data into clear decisions and executive-ready narratives.
- An excellent cross-functional leader and influencer , able to set direction for partner teams, build trusted relationships, challenge constructively, and drive outcomes without formal authority.
- Proactive, curious, and entrepreneurial , with the initiative to explore an emerging space, identify opportunities without waiting for direction, and adapt quickly as evidence and market dynamics evolve.
- Energized by Live Commerce and evolving consumer and seller behavior , with a strong interest in understanding and shaping the rapidly developing German market; fluent in German and English.
