Senior Principal InP NPI Engineer

About The Role

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • -
  • Serve as the NPI owner for InP-based optoelectronic components and assemblies, including lasers and photodiodes.
  • -
  • Lead first-article builds, pilot production, product transfer, qualification support, and volume-ramp activities.
  • -
  • Drive yield learning, risk identification, and technical issue resolution during product bring-up.
  • -
  • Work with internal fabs and external foundries, OSATs, and contract manufacturers to ensure process readiness and scalability.
  • -
  • Coordinate with design, process, product, packaging, test, reliability, quality, and operations teams to close product and manufacturing readiness gaps.
  • -
  • Maintain clear manufacturing specifications, process controls, test requirements, and change documentation for release.
  • -
  • Prepare and present NPI readiness reviews, yield reports, technical summaries, and action status to stakeholders.

Education & Experience

  • -
  • MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Optoelectronics, or a related field; a BS with strong relevant experience may be considered.
  • -
  • Typically 3+ years of experience in InP optoelectronics, compound-semiconductor NPI, or advanced device manufacturing.
  • -
  • Hands-on experience with InP-based lasers, photodiodes, modulators, or related optoelectronic devices.
  • -
  • Experience with subassembly and semiconductor packaging processes and controls.
  • -
  • Positive interpersonal skills necessary to support cross-functional teams.
  • -
  • Strong technical written and verbal communication skills.

Skills

  • -
  • Strong understanding of InP optoelectronic device physics.
  • -
  • Experience with epitaxial growth and compound-semiconductor fabrication processes.
  • -
  • Experience with yield analysis, SPC, DOE, and data-driven problem solving.
  • -
  • Knowledge of electrical and optical test methodologies for active photonic devices.
  • -
  • Strong cross-functional communication, project coordination, and documentation skills.

Working Conditions

  • This position is onsite preferred; hybrid or remote work may be considered for the right candidate when business needs allow.
  • -
  • Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary.
  • -
  • Regular interaction with internal teams and manufacturing partners is required; occasional travel or off-hours support may be needed for builds and production ramp.
