The Dorm Program Supervisor (DPS) is responsible for promoting an atmosphere conducive to the social, emotional, educational, and physical development of students; providing support and guidance to Student Life personnel, students and parents.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Basic Qualifications

• Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree OR five (5) years of work-related experience.
• Supervisory / Residential Background: One (1) year of supervisory experience OR three (3) years of experience working in a residential setting.
• Sign Language Proficiency: Sign language proficiency evaluation of SURVIVAL PLUS upon employment. All applicants must provide documentation of sign language proficiency or take a sign language proficiency evaluation (SLPI available through AIDB).
• Employment Suitability: Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Residential Life & Student Support

• Student Development: Promote an atmosphere conducive to the social, emotional, educational, and physical development of students; provide support and guidance to Student Life personnel, students, and parents.
• Activity Planning: Develop, plan, and schedule student activities in collaboration with the recreation aide.
• Student & Family Support: Provide support to students when problems or questions arise; provide information and support to parents regarding the well-being and care of their child.
• Interdisciplinary Participation: Participate in student staffing and interdisciplinary conferences.
• Schedule & On-Call Availability: Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends; must meet on-call requirements to provide emergency services during non-duty hours as required by crisis situations.

Personnel Supervision & Leadership

• Staff Evaluation & Supervision: Evaluate assigned personnel; conduct conferences to discuss strengths and weaknesses; develop remediation plans to address staff weaknesses; submit reports, remediation plans, and evaluations to the Director for approval.
• Team Guidance: Provide supervision, direction, and ongoing support to Student Life personnel.
• Communication & Policy Commitment: Must be able to communicate effectively and proficiently with deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing individuals and possess a commitment to the AIDB/ASD Communication Policy.

Crisis Management & Facility Operations

• Crisis Response: Responsible for managing crisis situations in cooperation with other Student Life personnel and the Director; provide emergency on-call services as required during non-duty hours.
• Facility Maintenance: Supervise the care and maintenance of assigned Student Life buildings, facilities, and grounds to ensure areas are safe, attractive, and appropriately maintained; submit work orders and maintenance requests as needed.

Relationship Building & Professional Growth

• Rapport & Community Relations: Develop and maintain strong rapport with staff members, students, parents, alumni, and others within the school and Institute.
• Professional Competence: Maintain and develop professional growth through participation in staff development and in-service programs, including local, state, regional, and national conferences, workshops, and meetings.
• Legal & Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws concerning educational administration and programming, particularly as they relate to deaf, hard of hearing, and other disabilities.

Professional Development & Certifications

• Sign Language Proficiency: Sign Language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months and ADVANCED within thirty-six (36) months of employment according the AIDB evaluation system.
• Licensure & Driving Requirements: May be required to possess a valid Alabama Driver's License and may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Alabama School Bus Driver License within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment. Must maintain yearly certification for Alabama School Bus Driver License (if applicable) and a valid Alabama Driver License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The Student Life Supervisor position requires physical capability and flexibility to support 2nd shift residential operations, including:

• Active movement throughout residential halls, campus facilities, and grounds.
• Ability to respond rapidly to campus emergencies and crisis situations during duty and on-call hours.
• Working evening, night, and weekend schedules as required for 2nd shift residential supervision.

• SALARY: $31,215 - $41,627 Scale D3 Rank 40 HS Diploma/GED with 5 yrs. of work experience
• $46,281 - $61,741 Scale D3 Rank 52 (Bachelor’s Degree)
• $50,974 - $68,040 Scale D3 Rank 54 (Master’s Degree)
