Forklift Mechanic

Job Overview

The Forklift Mechanic will diagnose and perform all electrical and hydraulic repairs on a variety of powered industrial equipment, including Forklifts, Order Pickers, Pallets Jacks, and other material handling equipment.

The Forklift Mechanic will read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. To perform preventive maintenance, they routinely check items such as hydraulic fluid levels, tire pressure, the condition of the forks, drive control, steering and the brakes. At least 1-2 years of experience required working on Crown lifts. Must supply your own basic tools!

Job Responsibilities & Duties

Typical duties include but are not limited to

• Commitment to AFW’s safety policies and procedures and ability to promote awareness.
• Performs all general repairs on forklifts, order pickers, and other material handling equipment.
• Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
• Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, and controlling corrosion.
• Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile al, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
• Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
• Determines equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
• Completes repairs by making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
• Verifies equipment performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
• Maintains equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
• Maintains equipment records by annotating services and repairs.
• Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
• Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
• Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
• Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines and effectively prioritize and executes tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Great time management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrate high level of attention to detail and professionalism at all times.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Must own your own tools.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Experience with Crown forklifts preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Professional attitude and the ability to work well with other departments and AFW employees.
• Have a flexible schedule and work all shifts. Which may include holidays and weekends.
• Coordinate and work effectively with multiple departments to continuously improve processes, maximize efficiency and exceed expectations.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED is preferred. Must have previous mechanic experience, preferably has 1 or more years of experience working on Crown lifts.

Compensation

Pay rate: Starting $28 and up! Depending on experience and education.

Physical Demands

• Capacity to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas.
• Capability to stand, walk, stoop, & bend for 8 hours or more daily.
• Lifting, gripping, bending, kneeling, stooping, and moving merchandise 8 hours or more daily.
• Continuous use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back.
• Ability to lift, lower, move, carry, push and pull all sizes of merchandise up to 100 lbs. and the skill to handle/manipulate merchandise up to 250 lbs. frequently.
• Able to work in various environments with different lighting, loud exterior noise, and flooring.

• Climate effected by outside conditions including extreme heat.
• Considerable exterior noise
• Extreme temperature fluctuations in warehouse
