The Role
Wood is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Project Engineer to support the delivery of brownfield and sustaining capital projects at an existing refinery near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The role will support project management activities across cost, schedule, technical conformance, HSSEA, quality, engineering coordination, procurement, construction support and change management

- Reporting to the Owner’s Project Manager, this role will be on-site at the refinery full time delivering various ongoing refinery projects brownfield/sustaining capital scopes focused on asset integrity.

- Must be willing to enter the live Process areas for any site visits/data gathering/constructability field walks/etc. and comply with PPE requirements
- Will need to coordinate with various stakeholders, including engineering contractors and site personnel / management team
- Coordinate multi discipline input to engineering deliverables
- Review the work of the Discipline Leads in the preparation of technical specifications, designs, drawings and documents and ensure the quality of engineering and design
- Assist in coordination of cross discipline input in to engineering deliverables and ensuring compliance with the Design Basis
- Plan individual work activities and manage time; liaise with disciplines to ensure timely receipt of comments.
- Follow and deliver against project engineering manhour budget and schedule requirements
- Report on progress issues to facilitate resolution
- Alert more senior project management personnel in the event of potential delays or changes
- Participate in key discussions, with respect to technical inquiries and design verification of scope clarification as well as provide input into progress reporting
- Participate in the management of change process for the project by informing the necessary parties and preparing the necessary change management documentation
- Responsible for creation of multidiscipline procurement packages. Coordinate between engineering and procurement on scope of work documentation, compiling and reviewing technical documents, preparing other required documentation for procurement including multi-discipline bid evaluation and clarifications
- Coordinate between engineering and estimating team for material take-offs, inclusions and exclusions, and other technical aspects
- Support the assessment of engineering and procurement progress within the overall project schedule and identifying mitigations should actual and/or forecast schedule performance deviate from planned
- Assist in maintaining the look-ahead engineering schedule and work lists
- Monitor discipline progress and performance of the engineering scope and develop corrective action plans when required
- Interface with construction team as required to provide technical clarity and coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs)
- Provide input to the identification of risks and supporting the management of risks

Expected
- Registration as a P.Eng. with a minimum of 10 years of broad experience in Oil, Gas & Chemicals projects
- Experience with engineering design, engineering progressing, procurement package development, contract development, scope of work writing, EWP definition, quantity management, change control and scheduling/planning
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering quality management and the application of engineering principles across multidisciplinary projects
- Experience coordinating engineering deliverables, procurement activities and project schedules
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with people at all levels
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood now or in the future

- Formal Project Management training
- Experience supporting brownfield or sustaining capital projects in refinery environments
