About The Role

The Learning Officer Engineering is responsible for co-designing, implementing, and evaluating training and development programs that enhance the skills, safety, and productivity of employees within the mining operation. This role ensures the workforce is equipped to meet current and future operational requirements while adhering to industry standards and regulations.

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

Safety

  • Consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.

Performance and Delivery

  • Facilitate engaging training sessions using various methodologies, including e-learning, classroom instruction, and on-the-job training. Customise training for diverse audiences and coordinate with external trainers as needed.
  •  Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, maintain compliance with industry standards, and implement continuous improvement practices to enhance learning delivery.
  •  Assess the impact of training on employee performance and operational efficiency. Use feedback and performance data to refine training strategies.
  • Ensure training programs adhere to MQA and SAQA standards, along with other relevant regulatory requirements.
  •  Maintain accurate records of training activities, participant progress, and program effectiveness for reporting and compliance purposes.
  •  Co-design comprehensive training programs based on needs assessments, covering safety, technical skills, leadership, and regulatory compliance.
  •  Partner with subject matter experts to facilitate training sessions, workshops, and simulations, ensuring that learning objectives are met, and outcomes are evaluated.
  •  Stay informed about changes in legislation, regulations, and industry standards relevant to learning and development activities, providing updates to Learning Delivery Managers, Advisors and Supervisors as needed.
  •  Ensure that the learning procedures and process flow are quality controlled, current, and adhered to at the operation.

People & Teams

  • Actively engage as a team member in all team processes.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.
  • NQF5 OD ETDP Level 5 Higher Certificate
  • Grade 12
  • Trade Certificate
  • Assessor and Moderator Certificate
  • ISO 9001 of 2015 Certificate (Advantageous)
  • Engineering Foreman Certificate (Advantageous)
  • Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence

Experience

  • 4 years’ experience as an Engineering Foreman will be advantageous.                       

Technical knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient in training methodologies and adult learning principles.
  • Advanced understanding of South African labour laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to training and development within the mining industry.
  • Proficiency in instructional design methodologies, adult learning theories, and learning technologies for designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs.
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms, and data analytics tools for managing training data, tracking performance metrics, and generating actionable insights.
  • Knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessment techniques, and incident investigation protocols to support the development of safety training programs.
  •  Computer literate.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills to inspire and motivate Learning team members, foster collaboration, and drive performance excellence.
  •  Strong project management abilities to plan, execute, and evaluate complex training and development initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and timelines.
  •  Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess training needs, analyse data, and develop data-driven strategies for optimizing learning outcomes and performance improvement.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, management, trainers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Adaptability and resilience to navigate challenges and uncertainties, leveraging a growth mindset and a commitment to lifelong learning to drive personal and professional development.
