About The Role
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
Safety: Consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities. Material usage to standard: adherence to standards required for chemicals, glassware, and equipment (e.g., MSDS, handling and use of glassware and equipment).
Performance and Delivery
- Effective operation of laboratory instrumentation and equipment (Quality)
- Maintain correct and efficient operation of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
- Monitor instrumentation and trends, react timeously to abnormal activities, QC trends and notify relevant personnel
- Perform the required QC checks and maintain records as necessary as per Laboratory QA/QC policies and procedures
- Perform glassware verification
- Preparing QC, Internal standards, and calibration standards
- Participate and assist in troubleshooting to resolve equipment/instrument breakdowns and erroneous outputs
- Ensure compliance to the Laboratory Management system & ISO 17025
- Report deviations timeously
- Must be competent in performing the role of the Lab Processor and will do so when instructed
- Perform glassware verification
- Maintain production efficiency and achievement of targets (Quantity)
- Manage the utilization of instrumentation and equipment for maximum throughput. Proactively apply preventative measures to ensure optimal availability
- Effective communication with the Control Room Operator during shift (where applicable)
- Maintain efficient operation of Laboratory and equipment
- React appropriately to abnormal activities and notify relevant Process Supervisor and Operator by radio/telephone
- Direct the activities of Laboratory personnel to correct Laboratory defects by allocating relevant tasks
- Liaising with Engineering employees to maintain or inspect equipment at the laboratory.
- Assist during breakdowns and emergencies and notify standby personnel
- Maintain and operate relevant fire/evacuation alarm system
- Maintain steady volume control of the circuit by monitoring it versus Laboratory parameters
- Ensure correct procedures are followed during start up and shut down of relevant circuits and equipment
- Train candidates on Processor functions and duties
- Compile an accurate shift report at the end of each shift
- Generate reports and trends for management on request
- Log any incidents, instructions, and important changes made in the Laboratory and record breakdowns should they occur
- Perform required shift handover
- Familiar with the GSARMS system and STARLIMS
- Accurately complete role administration requirements
- Adhere to Valterra Platinum compliance requirements and ensure compliance of team
- Ensure high standard of safety in section
People & Teams:  
- Actively engage as a team member in all team processes.
Compliance:  
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.
- Matric (Grade 12) with Maths and Science.
- Completed all relevant Laboratory Processor and Laboratory Technician skills programmes/training programmes.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of operational processes within scope of role
- Competence in the following skills programs:
- Preparation of Samples using STARLIMS
- Sampling and evaluation Modules
- ORM A2 advantageous
- Legal Liability
- Competent to use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Risk management techniques and critical controls
- English literate
- Basic financial metrics, cost, and value management & budgeting tools
