About the team

Our cross-functional teams include Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers focused on delivering solutions and solving problems rather than simply completing tickets. The structure is flat, and the process is lean, with a culture of MVP, iteration, and "build, measure, learn" at the heart of everything we do. We share in-depth experience in Node/ Typescript, React, PostgreSQL, AWS SQS, SNS, S3 Lambda, and more!

Job Description

About the Role

As a Principal Frontend Engineer, you’ll be the most senior Frontend member in our 150+ person engineering organisation. While Luxury Escapes is best known as a travel brand, we are fundamentally a technology-driven business. Our platform powers a global travel marketplace with millions of monthly active users, and processing millions of dollars in transactions every day.

Our main website runs on a large React application powering millions of sessions each month, integrated with a microservice backend. Our typical microservice is an express.js app with Redis and Postgres, hosted on AWS Fargate.

We’re a fast-paced, low bureaucracy, and AI-forward engineering organisation. Our engineering team works together in person, from our Sydney office near Wynyard Station. We suit candidates who enjoy doing challenging work, alongside smart, ambitious team mates.

You will

• Be hands on, in the details, writing code
• Lead from the front with adoption of AI-augmented development
• Own and evolve our frontend platform, including architecture, performance, and our company-wide design system
• Lead or provide guidance on our highest impact initiatives that span teams and business units
• Step into the most complex or stalled initiatives and help teams unblock, simplify, and ship.
• Mentor other engineers, and drive adoption of best practices amongst those contributing to our frontend
• Drive improvements in performance, reliability, and developer experience.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have

• Deep experience with complex React applications
• Deep understanding of modern frontend architecture and best practices
• An AI-forward mindset
• Strong expertise in automated testing for frontend applications
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams without formal authority
