Field Service Technician (Power Systems)
Location: Ohio-Based | 75%+ Travel
Department: Field Service
Reports To: Senior Manager, Field & Service Programs
Starting Salary: $75,000/Year (Higher Based on Experience)
Role Overview
We are hiring a Field Service Technician to support the installation, startup, maintenance, and repair of power distribution systems. This position offers long-term career potential and is well-suited for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, frequent travel, and solving complex electrical issues in real-world environments.
The role requires a high level of independence, along with strong communication skills when working directly with customers onsite.
Core Responsibilities
System Installation & Startup
- Install and assist with commissioning of electrical power distribution equipment
- Conduct system checks, verification, and performance testing
- Configure and troubleshoot HMIs and operator interfaces
- Ensure all work meets applicable electrical codes and safety standards
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair issues involving 3-phase systems, transformers, and related components
- Perform root cause analysis in active/energized environments
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings
Customer-Facing Support
- Act as the onsite technical representative during service visits
- Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams
- Provide basic training and operational guidance to end users and maintenance staff
Reporting & Documentation
- Complete detailed service reports and documentation
- Track time, materials, and service activities accurately
- Identify repeat issues and recommend corrective actions or improvements
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in field service, electrical maintenance, or a related role
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical and mechanical systems
- Experience working with 24V, 120V, and 480V systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics
- Willingness and ability to travel 75% or more
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred
- Experience with power distribution equipment such as UPS systems, switchgear, or transformers
- Basic knowledge of PLCs or HMI troubleshooting
- Background in equipment startup or commissioning
- OSHA or other safety certifications
