Job Description

Duties

  • Plan, design, test, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of enterprise backup systems.
  • Proactive capacity planning for backup environments across the company.
  • Manage backup related activities such as monitoring, troubleshooting performance issues, data recovery, exception management, etc. across both data center and remote office environments.
  • Monitor the performance of all backup systems and respond to issues and incidents by troubleshooting to resolve the problem.
  • Recommend, schedule and perform backup environment improvements, upgrades, patches, and fixes.
  • Produce and maintain written documentation of the backup environment.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Disaster Recovery plans.
  • Assist in research on relevant technology products, services, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the backup industry.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal customers to evaluate new requirements and recommend improvements related to backup performance, backup windows, resource utilization, and cost
  • Engaging with OEM vendors in incident remediation and technical solution development.

Qualifications

  • Must have 5+ years’ experience in managing enterprise Backup and Recovery environments.
  • High level of experience engineering and administering large enterprise scale Backup solutions, including RMAN, SQL, backup-to-disk, and EMC/NetApp storage based solutions.
  • Specific experience managing EMC Suite and CommVault Enterprise Backup solutions, including management/reporting tools such as Data Protection Advisor (DPA).
  • Experience with disk-based backup solutions, such as Data Domain and comparable solutions.
  • Experience with backup and data replication solutions.
  • Experience implementing and supporting backup solutions for highly virtualized server environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Redhat Linux operating systems.
  • Experience managing backup technology integration with database, application and other components.
  • Experience working with external support providers and strategic partners to design, implement and support backup and recovery solutions.
  • Must understand Disaster Recovery methodologies and solutions related to backup and recovery.
  • Must have experience in building business cases for technology related initiatives, and the ability to make presentations to leadership.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong problem solving skills.
  • Understand Oracle and MS SQL database backup and recovery concepts and solutions.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Must be able to work additional hours including occasional weekends and evenings
  • Requires the ability to provide support 24 X 7
