About Basic Capital

Basic Capital is building the Robinhood of 401(k)s — a modern retirement platform that gives everyday workers access to the full investment universe, including stocks, crypto, private equity, and venture capital, alongside a first-of-its-kind “Retirement Mortgage” product that enables leveraged investing.

We are operating in a $10T market that has seen little innovation in over 40 years. Since launching just over a year ago, we’ve achieved 30% month-over-month growth, scaled rapidly, and raised a $25M Series A at a $110M valuation. We are now approaching a $50M Series B at approximately $300M.

Our investors include Bill Ackman, Lux Capital, Forerunner Ventures (Kirsten Green), Henry Kravis, SV Angel, and Ron Conway — a group that reflects conviction in building a category-defining financial platform.

Our team includes talent from Goldman Sachs, Robinhood, Stripe, Uber, and top universities. Based in Tribeca, NYC, we are a high-intensity, high-performance team committed to reshaping retirement and expanding access to wealth.

About the Role

Basic Capital is hiring a Chief of Staff to operate as the right hand to the CEO, Abdul Al-Asaad.

This is not a traditional strategic role. It is an execution-first position designed to serve as the operational backbone behind a founder operating at extreme velocity across fundraising, regulatory affairs, and institutional partnerships.

The CEO opens doors — with partners like Coinbase, Apollo, and government stakeholders. This role ensures those opportunities are captured, executed, and closed.

You will sit beside the CEO in every critical moment: meetings, inbox, calendar, and decision-making flow. Your mandate is simple: ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

This is a high-exposure role with direct access to top-tier investors, regulators, and industry leaders. Over time, for the right person, this role can evolve into a President-level position.

What You’ll Do

Own CEO Execution Infrastructure

  • Attend all major meetings and capture detailed notes and action items
  • Drive all follow-ups, ensuring every opportunity progresses post-meeting
  • Manage CEO inbox to zero — triage, draft responses, and prioritize
  • Build and maintain daily execution plans and weekly planning cadence
  • Handle scheduling, logistics, and communications without prompting

Drive Critical Business Operations

  • Coordinate Series B fundraising, including diligence, documentation, and investor communication
  • Manage strategic partnership execution (Coinbase-level deals)
  • Support regulatory workflows across DOL, SEC, and government stakeholders
  • Build systems to ensure opportunities are consistently captured and converted

Enable Company-Level Outcomes

  • Support credit facility raises (hundreds of millions in scale)
  • Work cross-functionally with CTO, Growth, Operations, and Legal
  • Help establish repeatable execution infrastructure across the company
  • Ensure CEO time is focused only on highest-leverage activities

Who You Are

  • You are a high-functioning operator with strong executive instincts and low ego. You thrive in high-intensity environments and take pride in flawless execution.
  • You anticipate needs before they are stated. You are equally comfortable in elite rooms and executing immediately afterward.
  • You care deeply about follow-through, not just ideas.

You have

  • A bias toward action and ownership in ambiguous environments
  • Exceptional organizational and execution ability
  • Comfort operating at high velocity (9am–9pm culture)
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism
  • Ability to engage credibly with senior stakeholders across finance, tech, and government

What We’re Looking For

Requirements

  • 4–8 years of experience
  • Investment banking experience (Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, or equivalent; FIG, LevFin, or similar)
  • Post-banking operating experience (Chief of Staff, BizOps, Growth, or founding team)
  • Background in Financial Services or B2B environments
  • Strong executive function and organizational systems thinking
  • Willingness to handle both strategic and administrative responsibilities without ego
  • Ability to operate in a high-intensity, founder-led environment

Bonus Points

  • Prior Chief of Staff experience at a scaling company
  • Fintech or regulated industry experience
  • Experience supporting senior executives or founders
  • Top-tier academic background
  • What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)
  • CEO inbox consistently at zero
  • Weekly planning cadence fully systematized
  • Strategic deals consistently progress and close post-handshake
  • Series B ($50M) executed cleanly and efficiently
  • Major partnerships (e.g., Coinbase-level) successfully closed
  • Execution infrastructure built to prevent opportunity loss
  • CEO fully focused on highest-leverage activities
