Bridgetender

is responsible for operating and maintain railway bridge on the Canso Causeway Swing Bridge. Bridgetenders are accountable for safe work and operating practices. Reports to the track supervisor.

Responsibilities

The Bridgetender performs the entity of the following duties

  • Operate the railway bridge.
  • Operate the gates and lights to stop vehicle traffic.
  • Perform minor inspection, small repairs of the structure, tightening bolts, oiling, greasing.
  • Climb the ladder to access the overhead bridge.
  • Communicate by radio and telephone to authorized train movement over the bridge.
  • Deal with motorized traffic from highway.
  • Cleaning debris, ice and snow from bridge wedges.
  • •Record boat activity.
  • Perform all other related tasks.

General Requirements

Have a High School Diploma.

Have a driving license.

Experience as a Bridgetender is an asset.

Have verbal and written skills.

Able to work alone and work safely.

Show great autonomy and be resourceful.

Thorough knowledge of the CROR Rules.

Ready to work outside in different weather conditions.

Able to adapt to changes; working hours, service calls, overtime.
