About the Role
- We are seeking a
- Technical Writer – Satellite Operations Handbook (Editor-in-Chief)
- to lead the development and maintenance of a mission-critical
Satellite Operations Handbook
used throughout the satellite mission lifecycle. In this role, you will serve as the central technical editor, partnering with systems engineers and subsystem experts to transform complex engineering documentation into clear, consistent, and operator-ready documentation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of technical communication and spacecraft systems engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the Editor-in-Chief for the Satellite Operations Handbook.
Gather technical documentation and engineering inputs from subsystem teams, including
Power
Thermal
Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS)
TT&C
Payload
Fault Detection, Isolation & Recovery (FDIR)
Ground Segment
- Interview subsystem engineers to clarify technical details, resolve inconsistencies, and verify technical accuracy.
- Rewrite engineering documentation into clear, concise, operator-focused procedures.
Organize handbook content across all mission phases, including
- Nominal operations
- Contingency operations
- FDIR procedures
- Subsystem reference documentation
- Maintain document configuration control and revision history.
- Coordinate formal technical reviews with engineering and operations stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, terminology, and style guidelines across contributors.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience authoring long-form technical documentation, such as
- Operations manuals
- Technical handbooks
- Flight rules
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Published research or a Ph.D. thesis
- Working knowledge of satellite systems and spacecraft engineering with the ability to understand and interpret subsystem documentation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to consolidate information from multiple technical sources into a clear and consistent narrative.
- Excellent written English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in
Satellite Operations
Spacecraft Systems Engineering
Mission Analysis
French language proficiency.
Experience with documentation and requirements management tools such as
DOORS
Confluence
- Familiarity with ECSS or NASA documentation standards.
- Experience developing training materials or supporting the certification of satellite operations personnel.
