Program Overview for Sustainable Cities and Transport

WRI India's urban development work aims to transform the way cities are planned and designed to ensure that urban development benefits people, nature and climate. We collaborate at all levels with the government, city administrations, urban stakeholders and partners to help cities become resilient, low-carbon and liveable while balancing their socio-economic goals. Job Highlight

You will play a key role in advancing sustainable and climate-resilient urban development in Nashik, supporting the implementation of the Nashik Climate Action Plan (CAP) and the city's Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) Program. This position is ideal for professionals passionate about urban planning, urban development, climate resilience, and shaping the future of Indian cities through integrated planning, policy, and implementation initiatives.

Based in Nashik, the role involves working closely with the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), government agencies, technical experts, community organizations, and other stakeholders to plan and implement urban interventions that address challenges such as heat stress, flooding, environmental degradation, and public space improvement. The position combines project management, stakeholder engagement, field implementation support, research, and technical inputs to deliver impactful urban resilience and sustainable development outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Support the planning and implementation of the Nashik Climate Action Plan (CAP) and Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) Program, contributing to sustainable urban development, climate resilience, and nature-based solutions across the city.
  • Coordinate closely with Nashik Municipal Corporation, government departments, consultants, academic institutions, and community organizations.
  • Lead on-ground engagement and support development of concept plans, technical notes, presentations, reports, and knowledge products related to the project.
  • Conduct research, data collection, analysis, and documentation to support implementation of the Nashik Climate Action Plan and related urban initiatives.
  • Facilitate coordination among project partners and stakeholders, and independently drive project activities, timelines, and follow-ups.
  • Support organization of workshops, roundtables, capacity-building programs, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Document project progress, key learnings, and implementation outcomes for internal and donor reporting.
  • Represent WRI India in meetings and consultations with government officials, partners, and other stakeholders as required.

What You Will Need

  • Postgraduate degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Urban Development, Environmental Studies, Climate Studies, Public Policy, Geography, Urban Studies, or a related discipline. Candidates from Social Sciences with demonstrated experience in urban development and city-level projects are also encouraged to apply.
  • 4–7 years of relevant experience in urban development, climate resilience, environmental planning, sustainable development, or related fields.
  • Experience working with government agencies, urban local bodies, development organizations, or multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Strong understanding of urban planning and sustainable urban development, with demonstrated interest in climate resilience, blue-green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, urban heat mitigation, and flood resilience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage project activities, stakeholder coordination, and on-ground implementation support.
  • Strong research, analytical, documentation, and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with government officials and diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic project environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Familiarity with GIS, spatial analysis, mapping tools, AutoCAD, or preparation of concept plans will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Marathi is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel within Nashik and Maharashtra for fieldwork and stakeholder engagement.
  • Potential Salary and Benefits: INR 14,00,000 to INR 17,50,000

  • Duration : 1 year Term-Hire (Extendable based on performance and project requirements)
