Engineering Planner Asset Management

About The Role
The Planner is jointly responsible for establishing and embedding the sites Pro-active Maintenance Program on equipment, being primarily responsible to specify the requirements for completing approved work and ensuring that the program is revised routinely and is effective in its outputs and results. The Planner enables the Asset Management Teams to deliver the ‘Right Maintenance, the Right Way, at the Right Time’ thereby providing the Production Teams with safe, reliable and cost effective production capacity.
The Planner allows the section to operate in a planned and controlled environment instead of a highly stressed reactive environment. Performs the planning for all work, to be performed by the Work Centers in the Section as per the Operating Model, with inputs from the Foremen, in terms of scope, task lists, material, tools, skills, etc. in SAP PM. This includes programmed work (legal work, preventative maintenance and service work, condition monitoring - implementing maintenance plans received from the CAM), reactive work, follow-on work, during shuts or during operational time. Is primarily responsible for the quality of planning and continuous improvement of the same, based on data analysis and prompting from the maintenance, production and asset management personnel.
At sections/sites without Scheduler roles, this role is also responsible for scheduling of work during operational time and during shuts.
Extracts value from SAP PM for the SE and his Foremen in terms of equipment and Work Management performance reports. The role is also responsible for prompting and participating in A&I and DE activities.

- Ensures own and others compliance with relevant Policies, Procedures and Codes of Practices.
Key Maintenance Tactics/Service Strategy Accountabilities
- Actively participating in criticality assessment, provide information as needed
- Actively participating in RCM or other approved reliability studies and acting promptly where the outcomes affect Maintenance Planning efficiencies and effectiveness
- Change management administer updates / changes to Maintenance Schedules in the agreed and documented manner.
- CMMS - Set up selective (as per tactics) End-of-Life Replacement Schedules and monitor the 'Remaining Life Status'
- CMMS - Measure how well critical equipment is covered. Value adding schedules on 100% of Criticality 'A' Equipment.
- Systems & Procedures - Actively review systems and procedures regularly within the area to maximise effectiveness and efficiency within the Company
Key Work Management Accountabilities
- Support the Work Management process by ensuring that all required resources for Approved Work are identified in the Work Order
- Execute the “Plan Work” element of Work Management in the Operating Model and the Asset Management Framework.
- Comply with quality specifications and authority levels set out in the documentation.
- Review the Work Order Task Status Report on a daily basis: To assist in prioritizing the planning work/ To track upcoming work
- Plan approved work orders (within area of responsibility) for resource provisioning and execution prior to the Required Date.
- Encourage contribution of planning details from those expected to do the work.
- Incorporate crew input into planning packages.
- Identify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful planning of work orders for completion by their Required Date.
- Plan work to minimize the impact on operating performance without exceeding the Required Date for work completion.
- Plan work to minimize the demand for resources without exceeding the Required Date for work completion.
- At operations/sections without Schedulers, execute the “Schedule Work” element of Asset Management/Operating Model
- Schedule approved work orders for execution at a scheduled date prior to the Required Date
- Work collaterally across operational functions (e.g. Engineering, Production), to ensure the proper communication of timing and impact of scheduled work
- Identify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful procurement of resources allowing the scheduling of work orders for completion by their Required Date
- Escalate to appropriate authority in the event that scheduling tasks by the Required Date results in a requirement for additional downtime and/or resources
- Schedule tasks to minimize the impact on operating performance without exceeding the Required Date for work completion
- Schedule tasks to minimize the demand for resources without exceeding the Required Date for work completion
- Comply with applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures.
- Develop and use standard jobs to improve the efficiency of the planning process.

Material Management
- Coordinating the establishment of new materials (codification)
- Requesting updates / corrections to existing materials and services
- Monitoring Manufacturer / Supplier Warranties on equipment, parts and services
- Coordinating the returns of defective Repairable Unit to Supply Chain / Refurbishment Controller
- Coordinating and Administering Capital / Strategic Spares for site
Facility/Tools Management
- Supporting good Housekeeping practices
- Exercising Control over Tools Management
Financial Management
- Providing accurate Costs Estimates on Jobs
- Evaluating Benefits / Options for High Cost Repairs
- Proactively monitoring Asset Management Spend
- Tracking Job Commitments and revising delivery schedules
- Providing Inputs into Maintenance Budgets
Information/Performance Management
- Production of period reports (weekly and monthly) detailing planned versus actual maintenance activities and resource usage. Development of other reports as necessary.
- Ensure that corporate and statutory financial accounting and asset protection requirements relevant to the position are fulfilled in a timely and accurate manner.
- Keeps management informed and shares information. Provides well thought out, concise and timely oral and written information.
- Ensuring adherence to ERP Standards and Governance
- Integral in the Control over Equipment Modification / Plant Changes
- Controlling key engineering (OEM) documents on behalf of Section Engineer
- Engaging early in SIB Projects and Procurement
- Managing Key Reports and Files
Continuous Improvement/Defect Elimination/Analyse and Improve
- Actively review systems and procedures regularly within the area to maximise effectiveness and efficiency within the Company.
- Ensure that all Equipment Functional Failures are recorded with all the necessary and accurate information to allow detailed analysis
- Triggers for initiating ‘Defect Elimination / Failure Analysis’ are documented and adhered to
- Technical Stoppage Report to assist in identifying Functional Failures
- Contribute to and participate in Defect Elimination forums and studies.
- Establish site specific Triggers (Documented Triggers) that can be used to evaluate the need and value of DE.
- Monitor Failure Analyses being undertaken on ERP
- Provide leadership and supervision for continual improvement of processes and procedures
This role is in the Engineering Department and is a C5 level reporting to the Engineering Asset Manager.
- Grade 12 or Technical Trade Specific N2
- Successfully completed all Planner Asset Management training modules, or equivalent
- Have completed an apprenticeship / Learnership and is a qualified Artisan in a specific discipline or has suitable other technical qualifications and/or experience.
- Valid driver’s License code B
Experience
- 3-5 years Planned Maintenance or Production Experience in Mining/Process Industry
- Successfully completed all Planner Asset Management training modules, or equivalent
- Computer literate in full MS office
- Good analytical and decision making skills
Technical Skills
- Experienced in using a computerised planned maintenance system (SAP)
- In depth knowledge of discipline specific work to be planned
- Basic artisan Training Module
- Work Knowledge of client disciplines – Metallurgy, Mining, Engineering
- Advanced SAP Planned Maintenance Training Module
- Ability to Plan maintenance or production activities
- Code 8 driver license
