SUMMARY

Recovery Specialist provides educational, clinical and supportive peer services to Behavioral Health service recipients. The Recovery Specialist serves as a role model/educator/advocate for the department and assists members in obtaining recovery goals. The position requires good working knowledge of Peer Support/Self Help resources as well as Behavioral Health recovery process.

LOCATION: St. Mary's Campus - 75 Genesee St.

SCHEDULE: Mon - Fri, 8a - 430p

Position Summary

Recovery Specialist provides educational, clinical and supportive peer services to Behavioral Health service recipients. The Recovery Specialist serves as a role model/educator/advocate for the department and assists members in obtaining recovery goals. The position requires good working knowledge of Peer Support/Self Help resources as well as Behavioral Health recovery process.

Key Responsibilities

Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Serves as a bridge between the service recipients and the treatment team.

Carry out duties as a member of the team, under the direction of the Program Manager and/or Coordinator.

Facilitates individual and group peer support services

Completes required documentation as per program guidelines.

Implement skill building opportunities for peers.

Provide practical help and mentoring, advocacy, coordination, side-by-side individualized support, problem solving and direct assistance to help clients obtain the necessities of daily living.

Promote client self advocacy skills

Participates in and incorporates professional supervision and ongoing education.

For ACT Program: Provides education about self-help techniques.Teaches effective coping strategies, symptom management.Assists in the development of community support systems and networks. Participates as member of the clinical teams on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications

The individual needs to either be a current recipient of mental health services or have been receiving mental health services within the 2 years or have personal experience with Mental Illness.

One year Peer/Recovery Specialist – training or relevant experience of support & training preferred

Working knowledge of Peer Support/Self Help resources as well as Behavioral Health recovery process.

For Health Home Care Management and ACT: Must have valid NYS drivers license

Peer Specialist Certification Preferred

Required Licensure / Certification Skills

ACT Program

  • Valid New York State Driver's License.
  • Approved driving record - no major or capital violations within last 5 years.
  • Completion of mandatory driver education (upon employment).
  • Participation in NYS Department of Motor Vehicles License Event Notification Service (LENS) (upon employment).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant.
