About The Role

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our MPESA Core Platforms team, where you will play a vital role in managing and optimizing our financial services systems. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining service availability of 99.999%, ensuring our customers' financial transactions are secure and reliable. This role offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and has a direct impact on our financial services platform's performance and evolution.

Responsibilities

Role purpose

Reporting to the Manager MPESA Core Platforms, the role holder responsibilities will include financial services system management, capacity planning and technology evolution to attain a service availability of 99.999%.

Technical support duties include but are not limited to architecture reviews and optimization, incident handling, detailed root cause analysis, problem management, configuration management, automation of routine tasks, documentation, and operational acceptance compliance

Key accountabilities and decision ownership

Evaluation of new and existing financial systems infrastructure.
Planning & design for new financial solutions.
Platform capacity planning
Financial solutions technology evolution to attain 99.999% service availability
Implementation and integration of new hardware/software.
Optimization of existing systems.
Internal Process Improvement in accordance with ITIL and Agile standards.

Functional Competencies

Bachelor of Science Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Development or related subject.
2 years of work experience as an engineer in a telecommunications or financial services environment
Experience in Continuous integration and deployment methodologies using automated tools such as Jenkins.
Knowledge in mobile money systems, integrations, or financial systems

Key performance indicator

Quarterly road map planning for all platforms within scope i.e. core G2, lending platform, payment gateway & AML
Participate in the patching and platform upgrades projects and complete them within the agreed cost and timelines.
Skillset modernization – continuously upskill according to M-Pesa Technology yearly skillset modernization program.

Must have technical / professional qualifications

Extensive knowledge of networking and system administration (Unix/Linux)
Software development skills in Java, python, Angular JS etc
Knowledge in ITIL Service Operations processes and Agile methodology. Certification in Scrum fundamentals is an added advantage.
Proficient in database management skills

Desired

Certification in cloud technologies like AWS & GCP
Certification in cloud native technologies such as Kubernetes
