Process Engineer Metrology for DUV (m/f/x) – 2-year fixed-term contract
Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH · Remote, Germany
About The Role
ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology
Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips
Working for tomorrow today.
Around 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. As the centerpiece of every electronically controlled system, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives – whether in smartphones, smart homes or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in the field of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With high-precision lithography optics, photomask systems and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, increasingly powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, and thus plays a pivotal role in the age of micro- and nanoelectronics.
In our team, seven engineers and metrology experts (m/f/x) are currently working on the advancement of highly precise measurement and inspection processes for optics manufacturing . As an engineering team at the interface between research, development and production, we are responsible for introducing new metrology technologies as well as ensuring sustainable operation and continuous optimization of existing measurement processes in a serial production environment.
Do you identify with the description below? We look forward to your application!
Your role
- Responsible for the stability, performance, and ongoing development of metrological processes in the DUV environment
- Hands-on support of optical measurement systems in live operation, including troubleshooting (2nd level support)
- Analysis of process deviations and measurement issues, and derivation and implementation of sustainable improvement actions (continuous improvement, 8D)
- Interface between R&D, manufacturing, and upstream/downstream processes to ensure the successful serial transfer of new processes and systems
- Execution and evaluation of measurement capability analyses and qualification of measurement processes and inspection tools
- On-site production support to ensure supply readiness and rapid problem resolution in day-to-day operations
- Initiation and implementation of optimization and automation projects in the area of optical metrology
Your profile
- A successfully completed degree in Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Production Technology, or a related field, ideally complemented by a technical vocational qualification (e.g., precision optician, industrial mechanic, etc.)
- Initial professional experience in engineering, production, metrology, or process optimization
- Solid knowledge and ideally practical experience in optical metrology, system metrology, or high-precision inspection and measurement processes
- Understanding of production processes, process capability, and statistical methods (e.g., SPC, Six Sigma, measurement systems analysis), and ideally skills in analyzing and evaluating measurement and process data (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Power BI, or similar tools)
- A strong hands-on mindset and experience in troubleshooting systems and processes using structured root-cause analysis methods
- High initiative, resilience, strong sense of responsibility, and an autonomous, solution-oriented work style
