JOB SUMMARY

The Physician - Pediatric Gastroenterology is responsible for the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care; effective and efficient diagnosing, managing, and treating all patients placed under the role holder’s care. The Physician - Pediatric Gastroenterology makes recommendations, orders appropriate therapeutics and diagnostics as per the patient’s diagnosed condition. The Physician - Pediatric Gastroenterology should have a good experience in interventional and diagnostic endoscopy and nutritional support in children.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITES

Assesses and reassesses inpatients and/or outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
Actively participates in interdisciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holistic care for individual patients.
Reviews result of all investigations, develops and modifies treatment as required, provides guidance to less experienced colleagues.
Works in close co-operation with the present permanent staff, particularly regarding organization and development of the clinical service, formulation and conduct of clinical trials and the pooling of results for analysis.
Assists in supervising activities of junior medical staff and jointly assumes responsibility for patient care.
Responsible for the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care and services within specialty area.
Conducts Ward rounds, reassesses inpatients and/or outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
Provides clinical excellence by effective and efficient diagnoses, manages, and treats all patients placed under post holder’s care.
Responsible for the analysis and reporting of esophageal PH-impedance studies and surface electrogastrograms.
Responsible for the performance of high-resolution esophageal manometry, Antro duodenal manometry, colonic manometry, and anorectal manometry.
Undertakes regular diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies each week, with additional short acting or general anesthetic cases as required.
The unit runs an on/off service Rota in which attending physicians in turn have principal responsibility for the day-to-day running of the ward, in hospital referrals and on-call.
Demonstrates an active interest and involvement in research by initiating innovative clinical or research outcomes or collaborating on research projects to support the Sidra vision.
Delivers safe, effective, and holistic clinical services within accepted standards of care.
Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
Supports the inpatient parenteral nutrition service and the home parenteral nutrition program.
Liaises with colleagues, Allied Health staff, nursing, administrative and support services staff for additional input as required.
Complies with all hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices.
Supports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education

MD, MBBS or equivalent
Completion of residency program in Pediatrics
Completion of board certification and/or fellowship or training in Pediatric Gastroenterology
