About the Role
This is a foundational People Operations role at Avoca, sitting at the center of our day-to-day HR function. Reporting to our People Operations Lead, you'll own the employee lifecycle end-to-end, from offer acceptance through offboarding, while building the processes and documentation that let our People function scale alongside the business.
What You'll Do
- Own the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, orientations, transfers, promotions, compensation changes, and exits, ensuring every step is executed accurately and on time
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions on benefits, time off, payroll, and HR systems, resolving issues quickly and escalating where needed
- Support a growing global workforce by coordinating with cross-border payroll/PEO and benefits partners, managing time-off/leave nuances by region, and maintaining compliant documentation for employees in multiple states and countries
- Maintain clean, accurate employee data across Rippling and all connected systems, with regular audits to keep records complete and compliant
- Own the employee handbook across all states where we operate, keeping policies current, compliant, and clearly written
- Manage day-to-day compliance: I-9 verification, FMLA administration, leaves of absence, and HR documentation
- Draft and maintain job descriptions and offer letters as we continue to hire
- Build and document repeatable HR workflows, identifying what's manual, inconsistent, or missing, and putting the right process in place
- Support employee-facing programs, events, and workplace operations as needed
What You'll Bring
- 2-4 years of People Operations experience, preferably at a high-growth startup or technology company
- Hands-on experience with Rippling or a comparable HRIS platform
- Working knowledge of employment law in New York and California, including leave administration and I-9 compliance
- Demonstrated ability to build and document HR processes from the ground up, not just execute existing ones
- Strong written communication: you write clearly, keep things simple, and know your audience
- Experience managing employee data with a high degree of accuracy and discretion
- Comfortable handling competing priorities without losing track of the details
Who You Are
- Detail-obsessed and discreet: You catch the typo in the offer letter and the misclassified employee in Rippling and you handle sensitive information with the care it deserves
- A builder, not just a doer: You can't help but turn manual, inconsistent processes into repeatable systems, and you document as you go
- A clear communicator: You translate dense policies and legal requirements into something employees actually understand
- Service-minded and steady: You genuinely like helping people and bring calm, warmth, and professionalism to every employee interaction
- Rigorous in ambiguity: You don't need a playbook to get started; you make the call, hit your deadlines, and write the playbook as you go
Benefits
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Company-sponsored 401(k) through Vestwell
- Flexible PTO plus U.S. federal holidays
- Company-wide off-sites
- Daily in-office lunch through Parkday
- Dinner covered when working late
- Commuter benefits and late-night rideshare
- Standing desks and workspace accommodations available on request
- All core tools and software provided

Avoca’s total compensation package includes base salary, performance bonus, equity, and a comprehensive suite of benefits and perks.
