About The Role

The Trades Assistant provides vital support to our Trailer Maintenance Technicians and Diesel Mechanics by assisting with the maintenance, repair, and inspection of prime movers, trailers, and associated equipment. This role plays an important part in ensuring workshop operations run efficiently through hands-on assistance, safe work practices, and maintaining a clean and organised work environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Trailer Maintenance Technicians and Diesel Mechanics with servicing, diagnosing, and repairing heavy vehicles and trailers.
  • Support the inspection of trailers and identify components requiring repair or replacement.
  • Assist with the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of trailer components and equipment.
  • Carry out general workshop housekeeping, including cleaning, organising tools, and maintaining work areas.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are kept in good working order and stored correctly.
  • Assist with inventory management by reporting shortages of parts, consumables, or tools to the Workshop Supervisor.
  • Follow company safety procedures and comply with all Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Contribute to a safe, productive, and team-focused workshop environment.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Workshop Manager or Maintenance Team.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a workshop, mechanical, or trade assistant role is highly regarded.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety and attention to detail.
  • Reliable, proactive, and willing to take initiative.
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence.
  • Forklift Certificate
