This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Platform Backend Engineer based in Canada.
This is a senior backend engineering opportunity focused on building the cloud platform behind a browser-based, real-time 3D creation <experience.You> will design and operate highly scalable services supporting real-time collaboration, publishing pipelines, content delivery, and platform APIs.The role combines distributed systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, API design, reliability, and production <ownership.You> will work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to turn complex and ambiguous problems into reliable, customer-facing <solutions.As> a senior contributor, you will influence technical direction, improve engineering practices, and mentor other engineers.The environment is fast-moving and collaborative, with an emphasis on shipping iteratively while maintaining strong reliability and observability.Experience with real-time, multiplayer, gaming, or interactive 3D systems is particularly valuable but not essential.
Accountabilities
- Design, develop, deploy, and operate backend services supporting real-time collaborative editing, game publishing, content delivery, and other platform capabilities.
- Own services end-to-end across architecture, implementation, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production operations.
- Evolve the platform architecture to support stateful real-time workloads, session routing, service fleets, and increasing scale in a cloud-native environment.
- Define robust APIs and service contracts that enable editor and partner teams to build reliable experiences on top of the platform.
- Strengthen infrastructure and software delivery practices through infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automation, and repeatable deployment processes.
- Champion system reliability, observability, monitoring, and effective incident response, using production learnings to continuously improve services.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to translate ambiguous requirements into practical, reliable features.
- Contribute to architectural and technical decisions that shape the platform's long-term direction.
- Mentor fellow engineers through code reviews, design discussions, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Help establish high engineering standards around scalability, maintainability, reliability, and overall software quality.
Requirements
- Substantial professional experience designing, building, deploying, and operating production-grade backend services.
- Strong proficiency in one or more modern backend programming languages, with the adaptability to work across multiple technologies when required.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, including API design, data persistence, state management, scalability, and architectural trade-offs.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and containerized, orchestrated application deployments.
- Proven ownership of production services, including monitoring, debugging, operational support, and incident response.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native engineering practices, automated deployment, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD.
- Pragmatic engineering mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and make sensible technical trade-offs under real-world deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in cross-functional, fast-paced engineering environments.
- Experience with real-time or multiplayer systems, WebSockets, collaborative editing, or state synchronization is an advantage.
- Experience with game development, interactive media, the Unity Engine, or other real-time 3D technologies is a plus.
- Professional proficiency in English is required for frequent communication with globally distributed colleagues and partners.

- Competitive base salary ranging from CAD $125,300–$175,300 in Zone A or CAD $135,400–$203,000 in Zone B, depending on primary work location and experience.
