Senior Systems Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer based in Canada.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to support highly available, cloud-based infrastructure within the payments and financial services <domain.You> will design, implement, and maintain critical infrastructure across AWS and GCP while helping ensure strong security, performance, and reliability.The role combines cloud engineering, Infrastructure as Code, automation, networking, containerization, and production <operations.You> will work with mature systems where availability, scalability, and operational resilience are essential.Your expertise will help streamline infrastructure management, improve efficiency, and reduce operational risk through automation and modern engineering practices.The role is well suited to an experienced infrastructure professional who enjoys solving complex production challenges and collaborating with international teams.

Accountabilities

• Design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP.
• Build, manage, and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ensuring infrastructure remains scalable, consistent, and maintainable.
• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks for configuration management, provisioning, and operational automation.
• Support Kubernetes environments and containerized workloads, helping maintain reliable and scalable application infrastructure.
• Design and manage networking components, including VPCs, subnets, load balancers, connectivity, and related cloud networking services.
• Implement security controls, access management, and compliance-related configurations across cloud infrastructure.
• Monitor infrastructure health, investigate performance issues, optimize resource utilization, and improve overall reliability.
• Identify opportunities to optimize cloud costs while maintaining required levels of performance, availability, and security.
• Automate recurring operational tasks through scripting, tooling, and cloud automation.
• Support incident response, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of production infrastructure issues.
• Contribute to CI/CD and infrastructure automation workflows to improve deployment efficiency and operational consistency.
• Maintain clear technical documentation, architecture information, and operational runbooks.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience as a Systems Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, or in a comparable infrastructure-focused role.
• Commercial experience working with both AWS and GCP cloud environments.
• Advanced knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles and practices.
• Solid hands-on experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation.
• Strong Linux administration and networking fundamentals.
• Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes in production or enterprise environments.
• Proficiency in Bash or Python scripting for automation and operational tooling.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud automation practices.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure security, access management, and operational reliability.
• Confident English communication skills for daily collaboration with international teams.
• Experience in regulated industries or payments environments is an advantage.
• Knowledge of cloud security frameworks and compliance standards is a plus.
• Exposure to monitoring and observability tools is beneficial.
• Understanding of cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
