This role provides hands-on leadership for a team of workers' compensation claims professionals, ensuring strong performance, quality, compliance, and customer <service.You> will guide day-to-day claims operations while helping adjusters navigate complex compensability, investigation, litigation, and jurisdictional matters.The position combines people leadership with technical claims expertise, coaching, performance management, and client <support.You> will partner with management on recruiting, onboarding, training, and employee development while promoting consistent claims practices.The role also provides opportunities to participate in customer reviews, presentations, and claim-specific resolution activities.Success requires sound judgment, strong communication, and the ability to maintain performance and composure in a fast-paced environment.This is a remote opportunity with occasional overnight travel and meetings as required.
Accountabilities
- Supervise and support workers' compensation claims staff in their daily operations, ensuring quality, productivity, service, and compliance objectives are consistently achieved.
- Provide technical and jurisdictional guidance on complex claims matters, including compensability, investigations, litigation, case management, and client-specific instructions.
- Monitor adherence to applicable workers' compensation laws, regulations, and mandated reporting requirements.
- Coach, train, and develop team members through ongoing guidance, performance evaluations, and targeted development initiatives.
- Partner with management on recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and ensuring new employees develop proficiency in required procedures and responsibilities.
- Support performance management and recommend merit-based actions when appropriate and subject to required approval.
- Serve as a liaison for clients and employees by evaluating claim-specific, procedural, and special requests and recommending or executing appropriate resolutions.
- Participate in customer claim reviews, presentations, and other activities that strengthen client relationships and demonstrate claims performance.
- Promote effective claims administration, case management, and cost-containment practices across the team.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders while maintaining strong customer service and professional communication across telephone, email, and written channels.
- Maintain accurate and timely work while managing competing priorities, working independently when necessary and contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Attend meetings and travel overnight when required to support business and customer needs.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- At least 5 years of claims handling experience, with demonstrated knowledge and experience in Workers' Compensation.
- Current Workers' Compensation claims license or certification, maintained throughout employment.
- State certification or licensure as an experienced claims adjuster.
- Strong understanding of workers' compensation claims administration, case management, and cost-containment practices.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and develop team members' knowledge of claims practices.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, motivational, and people-development skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated public speaking ability.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to build productive relationships with clients, employees, and internal stakeholders.
- Effective quantitative, analytical, and interpretive skills, with the ability to evaluate information and make sound decisions.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure and communicate diplomatically across multiple channels.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude, including experience with Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight and attend meetings when required.
