Construction Specialist

We’re looking for Construction Specialist(s) to join our team and help build and maintain high‑quality orchard infrastructure across the Western Bay of Plenty. These are permanent, full‑time positions.

While experience in orchard construction is ideal, we also welcome applicants with skills from general construction, rural contracting, fencing, civil works, or machinery operation . If you’re practical, have operated machinery, and are confident working outdoors, we can teach you the orchard‑specific parts of the job.

What You Will Be Doing

• Marking out pole lines and preparing new orchard blocks
• Pole distribution and ramming
• Installing large structural poles (7–9 m), 2.4 m posts, and 2.7 m rakers
• Installing anchors to brace and tension the structure
• Operating tractors to lift, position, and ram posts deep into the ground
• Using a skid steer for fine‑tuning pole placement and manoeuvring through orchard rows
• Supporting fencing, wire work, cable installation, and general construction tasks
• Operating additional equipment such as forklifts, JCB/Skid Steer, tractors, quad bikes, winches, strainers, and other attachments/tools
• Maintaining machinery through regular checks and upkeep, performing minor repairs, and reporting mechanical issues promptly
• Health and Safety
• Follow The Baygold Way by adhering to all Health & Safety procedures
• Proactively identify and report hazards and risks

Alongside the core groundwork, there are opportunities to gain experience across other orchard‑development functions, including:

• Operating 3.0 m or 6.5 m Hydraladas
• Working at heights to install hail cloth over orchard blocks to protect fruit from weather conditions
• Installing side cloths / vertical shelter as required
• Working safely at heights, including the use of a chainsaw at height
• Running cable from a dispenser attached to a skid steer or JCB

What we are looking for

• At least 3 years’ experience in general construction, orchard construction, rural contracting, fencing, civil works, or machinery operation.
• Confidence operating tractors, skid steers, or similar equipment
• Ability to perform basic measurements and mathematical calculations
• Physically strong and fit, with a focus on safe work practices
• Ability to work at heights
• Practical, hands‑on problem‑solving ability
• Clean NZ driver’s licence and reliable transport

Desirable

• Wheels and Tracks certificate
• Forklift licence
