A Day in the Life
The Offshore Operations Technician – Measurement/I&E supports accurate measurement and quality of gas and oil production across offshore facilities. This role focuses on instrumentation troubleshooting, quality assurance, DOT compliance, and maintaining measurement and process equipment to ensure safe, reliable operations. Responsibilities may include meter installations, calibration, preventive and corrective maintenance, pipeline pigging activities, contractor coordination, and serving as Person in Charge (PIC) on fixed‑leg facilities while supporting routine offshore projects and turnarounds.
Williams’ Gulf East Operating Area, based in Mobile, Alabama, includes over 300 miles of oil and gas pipelines in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, two fixed‑leg junction platforms, two floating production facilities, and multiple third‑party operated sites. Offshore operations deliver gas to the Mobile Bay Processing Facility and oil to the Empire Terminal in Venice, Louisiana.

Responsibilities/Expectations
Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots offshore platforms, facilities, meter stations, and associated mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with technical standards and regulations
Adheres to all Company policies, operating procedures, and maintenance practices to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations
Maintains knowledge of site‑specific equipment, permits, inspections, and regulatory compliance requirements
Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on platform subsystems, hull and mooring systems, pumps, hydraulic systems, fans, dehumidifiers, chain jacks, and related equipment
Troubleshoots and resolves technical and operational issues through data analysis and collaboration with internal teams and contractors
Verifies, inspects, and calibrates gas and liquid hydrocarbon measurement, sampling, and flow automation equipment to ensure accurate quality and quantity determination
Performs DOT‑regulated tasks in accordance with 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195
Completes and maintains accurate reports, logs, inspection records, and maintenance documentation
Coordinates and oversees contract maintenance crews and vendor work activities.
Serves as company liaison for onboard projects, audits, inspections, and regulatory agency visits (e.g., ABS, BSEE, Coast Guard)
Supports mechanical, instrumentation, and control activities associated with platform, field gathering, and pipeline operations
Collects and analyzes operational data from plant start‑ups, shutdowns, and maintenance activities to support continuous improvement and future projects
Communicates effectively with facility personnel and teammates regarding maintenance status, production impacts, and operational issues

Education/Years of Experience
Required: High School Diploma/GED and minimum three (3) years of progressive experience working in the oil and gas industry, pipeline or offshore operations
Preferred: Associates or 2-year technical degree and minimum five (5) years experience of progressive experience working in the oil and gas industry, pipeline or offshore operations
Physical and Environment Work Requirements
Must be willing to
- Work in extreme temperatures, with loud noises and in enclosed spaces
- Carry or lift items up to 50 lbs and team lift loads of more than 50 lbs as needed
- Stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat, often for long periods of time
- Work at elevated levels, potentially from man lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and/or small towers, with appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
- Use hand tools
Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements
- Follows 14 on / 14 off schedule and as needed
- Available to spend multiple nights offshore on platforms and boats during offshore projects
Other Requirements
Must possess valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record
Demonstrates aptitude and ability to embrace technology and applications to drive operational efficiency and streamline processes
Exhibits excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and deems safety an utmost priority
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application and PC skills and proficient knowledge of maintenance management programs
Possesses or is able to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
Willing to travel by boat or helicopter to Offshore Platforms, and acquire a HUET “Helicopter Underwater Egress Training” and US Coast Guard Approved Water Survival course completion certificate
Preferred: Experience with Distributive Control Systems and Allen Bradley PLCs
Preferred: Experience with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of offshore pipeline equipment and measuring or gathering of natural gas and oil pipeline products
Preferred: Journeyman or electrical license
Preferred: Experience performing operational tasks, routine inspections, maintenance and calibration of equipment related to quality and quantity determination
Preferred: Experience performing operations and general maintenance in support of launching/receiving of oil/gas pigs, chemical injection operations, and pipeline operations
Preferred: Experience planning and conducting complex work requiring independent evaluation demonstrating self-motivation and the ability to safely perform tasks and make decisions with minimum supervision
Preferred: Able to apply niche knowledge in the effective completion of major projects and/or work assignments including performing maintenance, repair, calibrating, troubleshooting, dismantling, rebuilding, assembling and testing of various equipment, valves, operators, pumps, etc.
Preferred: Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to peers
Preferred: Experience with FERC, DOT, OSHA, AGA & API guidelines, rules and regulations compliance
