About The Role

The Strategic Communications Specialist serves as a key communicator, educator, and integrator for the Air Force Information Network (AFIN). This role strengthens the cybersecurity posture of the Air Force by developing, coordinating, and disseminating clear, timely, and actionable information to all AFIN users. The specialist ensures that Airmen, leaders, and mission partners understand evolving cyberspace processes, enterprise changes, and their critical role in defending the AFIN.

This position directly supports the 688 CW vision of building a connected, cyber‑aware Air Force and empowering every user as an active defender of the cyberspace domain.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Enterprise Communication & Messaging

  • -
  • Develop, refine, and distribute strategic communications that enhance awareness of AFIN operations, cybersecurity risks, enterprise changes, and user responsibilities
  • -
  • Translate complex cyber, network, and mission ‑ assurance topics into clear, accessible messaging for diverse audiences across the Air Force
  • -
  • Maintain consistent communication channels between 688 CW, 690 CYCS/AMAC, Cyber Unit Commanders, CFPs, ISSOs, CLs, 17X/Sq CCs, MCCCs, and mission partners

Cyber Awareness & Education

  • -
  • Create educational materials, guidance, and updates that strengthen user understanding of cybersecurity best practices and enterprise processes
  • -
  • Support initiatives that empower Airmen to confidently navigate and defend the AFIN
  • -
  • Promote proactive cyber hygiene and reinforce the user’s role as a vital asset in AFIN defense

Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination

  • -
  • Serve as a liaison between units supporting the AFIN and the broader Air Force community to improve information flow and operational transparency
  • -
  • Coordinate messaging with technical, operational, and leadership stakeholders to ensure accuracy, alignment, and mission relevance
  • -
  • Facilitate communication pathways that enhance collaboration and reduce information gaps across the enterprise

Program Development & Support

  • -
  • Contributes to the continued evolution of the Strategic Communications program, established to train CFPs of previous, continuous, and future AMAC operations
  • -
  • Support communication strategies that reinforce enterprise processes, standardization, and compliance across the AFIN
  • -
  • Identify emerging communication needs and develop new products, campaigns, or outreach efforts to address them

Required Skills & Competencies

  • -
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical concepts
  • -
  • Understanding of Air Force cyberspace operations, AFIN structure, and cybersecurity principles
  • -
  • Ability to engage diverse audiences—from technical cyber professionals to general AFIN users
  • -
  • Experience in strategic communication, public affairs, cyber operations, or IT service management is highly beneficial.
  • -
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate information needs and craft timely messaging.
  • -
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively across units, commands, and mission partners.

Education & Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience
  • 10+ years of DoW /Cyber work experience

Certifications

  • -
  • Required: IAT II/IAM II = Sec+ (CE), Sec X (CE)
  • -

Desired: CIS M, CISSP, PMP

Security Clearance

Other (Travel, Work Environment, DoD 8570 Requirements, Administrative Notes, etc.)

  • Day Shift. This is a 24/7/365 mission and extended hours/days may be required
