Journeyman Glazier - Supervisor

FIFO: 5–6 weeks on / 1–2 weeks off. Housing provided. Flights from Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria & Kelowna. Employee responsible for travel to departure airport.

The Journeyperson Glazier is responsible for leading and supervising Glazier Apprentices and Installers while overseeing the installation of windows, doors, and a wide range of glazing projects. This role ensures all installations meet or exceed company quality standards, building codes, and customer expectations. The Journeyperson Glazier operates a variety of tools and equipment, maintains a safe and organized work environment, and provides hands-on training and mentorship to team members while supporting the successful completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Installation

  • Fabricate, fit, and install architectural aluminum and glazing products in commercial buildings.
  • Install glass products including sealed units, mirrors, glass railings, curtain walls, storefronts, doors, showers, protective shields, and custom orders.
  • Prepare and install skylights and specialty glass in commercial and institutional buildings.
  • Repair and service aluminum doors, glass-supporting structures, and replace damaged glass.

Technical Expertise

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Perform accurate site measures and field surveys for dimensions.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery.

Quality Assurance & Service

  • Inspect systems for quality control and conduct on-site investigations related to warranty and service calls.
  • Assist in resolving customer concerns and complaints related to installation and product performance.
  • Complete job sheets, quality assurance documents, and required paperwork.
  • Monitor and report on daily job progress to supervisors.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Supervise, mentor, and motivate Glazier Apprentices/Installers to ensure high productivity and quality workmanship.
  • Provide training, assign work duties, and evaluate employee performance.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and enforce all health and safety policies, procedures, and site protocols.
  • Identify and communicate personnel or safety concerns requiring immediate attention.
  • Maintain inventory control in work vehicles and ensure tools and equipment are in safe working order.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Glazier Certification (Red Seal or provincial equivalent).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract.
  • Valid WHMIS, Fall Protection, and First Aid certifications.
  • 3–5 years of glazing experience (commercial and/or institutional projects).
  • Experience installing aluminum framing systems, curtain walls, storefronts, and glass products.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience leading or mentoring apprentices or junior installers.
  • Skilled in measuring, cutting, and fitting aluminum and glass components.
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Able to operate lifts, scaffolds, and rigging safely.
  • Understanding of building envelope systems and thermal performance.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve installation or product issues.
  • Works independently or as part of a team.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and working at heights.
