About The Role

Job Purpose

The Part-Time Cook at the Youth and Recreation Center is responsible for providing a healthy and nutritious food program for children and youth. This includes planning menus, preparing meals and snacks, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring safe food handling practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Meal Preparation and Food Service

  • Prepare and serve healthy daily meals and snacks, following safe food handling, hygiene, and health standards
  • Support staff during mealtimes by assisting with supervision

Menu Planning and Inventory

  • Plan bi-weekly menus and prepare grocery lists
  • Maintain a consistent meal/snack schedule
  • Shop for and order groceries based on attendance and menu needs
  • Ensure food stock levels are appropriate and adjusted as needed
  • Be mindful of allergies or dietary restrictions when preparing food

Kitchen Sanitation and Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen
  • Wash dishes, sanitize surfaces, and complete regular deep cleaning
  • Keep kitchen tools and appliances in good, safe condition
  • Report any issues with equipment or kitchen operations to the Supervisor

Administrative and Other Duties

  • Work collaboratively with staff to support a safe and positive environment
  • Submit reports such as grocery costs, monthly logs, and leave requests in a timely manner
  • Carry out any other related tasks as directed by the Supervisor

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Food Safe Certification required; additional food training is an asset
  • Minimum 2 years of cooking experience, preferably in a childcare or youth setting
  • Level 1 Early Learning and Childcare Training is an asset
  • Valid First Aid & CPR/AED Certification
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Experience working with youth and families is beneficial
  • Flexible and open to changes that improve service delivery
  • Knowledge of Cold Lake First Nation culture, language, and community is an asset
