About The Role

The Genetic Counseling Generalist provides operational genetic counseling support for preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) services, with a primary focus on reviewing referrals, assessing straightforward PGT-M cases, outlining preliminary test plans based on established case acceptance criteria, and supporting clinic partner communications.

The Genetic Counseling Generalist is an entry-level genetic counseling position that supports the operational workflow of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) services. Working under established guidelines and in collaboration with senior genetic counseling staff, this role reviews clinician inquiries, assesses straightforward PGT-M referrals, documents preliminary testing plans, prepares pedigrees and case documentation, and communicates testing information to clinic partners. The Genetic Counseling Generalist will participate in team meetings, performance/quality improvement and systems related projects, and complete other duties and/or projects that support the operational genetic counseling team, as needed, and as assigned by the Manager. Communication is primarily internal and with established clinic partners.

Operational Responsibilities (85%)

  • Reviews clinician inquiries regarding prospective patients and assists with provision of general feedback based on documented case acceptance criteria and medical policy documents.
  • Reviews and interprets straightforward PGT-M referrals to provide risk assessments and document preliminary PGT-M test plan.
  • Generates referral-focused pedigrees for GC-partnered cases. Completes related paperwork and additional chart documents as needed.
  • Provides information to GC-partnered clinics about the PGT-M genetic testing plan intended for their patient.
  • Assists with performing straightforward clinical reviews of laboratory-issued PGT-A, PGT-SR, and PGT-M test reports, as requested.

  • Assists with clinical review of straightforward PGT-M sub-cycle orders to ensure current clinical case acceptance criteria are met.
  • Collaborates with Senior and Lead GCs for review of complex PGT cases.
  • Assists Manager and broader operational genetic counseling team with maintenance of performance/quality and systems related initiatives.
  • Works with other departments effectively to allow for good clinic partner experiences.
  • Adheres to departmental SOPs.

Secondary Responsibilities (5%)

  • Participates in department meetings by presenting or contributing to discussions regarding standard PGT cases and outcomes.
  • Assists with departmental improvement initiatives as assigned by manager with oversight by Lead GC.
  • Completes own continued education; logging and submitted CEUs required by organization granting board accreditation(s).

Additional Projects/Preparation for Advancement Opportunities (10%)

  • Engages in client communications via phone and email.
  • Participates in basic tasks involving straightforward discrepancy investigations, PGT-Complete non-match outcomes, and incidental finding notifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to address somewhat complex or difficult PGT-M cases.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Aptitude for learning and becoming proficient in other computer software, as needed.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and management.
  • Strong attention to detail in composing and proofing materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently on daily tasks as well as in a group/collaborative environment.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work effectively from a remote setting and to sit for extended periods of time using computer equipment.

Experience

  • Foundational knowledge in job area including two years of professional education.
  • New graduates from an accredited genetic counseling program are encouraged to apply.

Education

  • Master's degree from an accredited genetic counseling program.
  • Applicant for Active Candidate Status or board-certified with the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
  • Holds or able to obtain genetic counseling license or temporary licensure in appropriate states, if applicable.

The good faith estimate of the salary range for this role is $66,845 to $89,127.
