Environmental Health and Safety Intern (Fall Construction Safety)

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction & Facilities Safety Intern to support the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) team. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting construction safety, contractor safety oversight, facilities operations, and physical environment compliance within a complex healthcare and research environment.

The intern will work closely with EH&S leadership, Facilities Management, project managers, and operational partners to assist with active construction and renovation projects, safety inspections, contractor compliance initiatives, documentation management, and performance reporting that promote a safe and functional environment of care.

This internship is ideal for students pursuing careers in healthcare operations, facilities management, project management, environmental health & safety, public health, healthcare technology, or related disciplines.

• Assist with safety inspections of construction, renovation, and facilities work areas.
• Support contractor safety oversight activities including documentation review, badge/training verification, and compliance tracking.
• Participate in project walkthroughs to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with tracking interim life safety measures (ILSM), barrier inspections, egress conditions, dust/noise controls, and project readiness items.
• Help maintain records related to permits, inspections, contractor documentation, and corrective actions.
• Support development of construction and facilities safety dashboards, scorecards, and KPI reporting tools.
• Assist with trend analysis related to project observations, incidents, deficiencies, and corrective action completion.
• Support communication postings and notifications related to construction impacts in occupied areas.
• Prepare charts, graphs, summaries, and presentation materials for meetings, committees, and leadership updates.
• Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive organizational data.
• Participate in team meetings and provide recommendations based on findings.
• Perform other related duties as assigned in support of EH&S operational and strategic priorities.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
