Eddy Current Operator

To test steel hammers to determine their hardness value using testing equipment.

Essential Functions

• Performs calibration on eddy current transducer equipment for tools to be tested.
• Positions hammer in fixture on eddy current transducer and reads if the hardness is within specifications for quality.
• Performs Rockwell hardness testing on selected samples as required.
• Reports all non-conforming tools and equipment problems to Foreman and/or Quality Manager.
• Completes the appropriate routing sheet and inputs data entry information in a timely manner.

Additional Responsibilities

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

• One (1) to three (3) months of related experience or on-the-job training.

Physical

• Must be able to stand at equipment for 8 hours or more per day
• Must be able to use both hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Must be able to frequently lift 25 pounds and move up to 100 pounds.
• Must have close vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus on work.
• Employees will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, high noise levels, and vibration to hands.
• Employees will be required to wear hearing protection, safety glasses and foot protection.

Mental

• Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple written and verbal instructions.
• Must be able to perform mathematical skills such as: addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division of all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Must have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical

• Must have mechanical aptitude for setting up equipment.
