About The Role

Worker Type

Permanent

Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."

We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We’re looking for commercially minded relationship builders to join our team in Tauranga, with opportunities available across both medium business customers and small business customers. These roles are all about getting alongside business owners, understanding what matters most to them, and providing tailored banking support that helps them grow, invest, and navigate opportunities with confidence.

For our medium business portfolio, we’re looking for someone with strong business banking and lending experience who is confident managing more complex customer relationships and supporting customers with broader funding and growth needs. For our small business portfolio, we’re open to candidates who bring business banking experience, as well as those who have a strong understanding of small business, commercial drivers, and what it takes to build trusted customer relationships.

Key responsibilities of the role and how you’ll support our customers

  • Building strong, trusted relationships by taking the time to understand each customer’s business, goals, and challenges.
  • Identifying new business opportunities through proactive networking, referrals, and local market activity.
  • Supporting customers with funding requirements, from day-to-day business needs through to more complex lending conversations that help enable growth.
  • Working closely with colleagues and specialists to deliver the right solutions for customers.
  • Representing BNZ in the local market through business development activity, events, and community connections.

The experience and strengths you’ll bring

These opportunities will suit people who are commercially minded, relationship-led, and confident having meaningful conversations with business owners. You’ll enjoy getting out into the market, building credibility with customers, and identifying opportunities to support business growth. Depending on the role, you may bring deeper business banking and lending experience, or a strong understanding of small business and the ability to build trusted customer relationships. You will bring:

  • Experience working with business customers in banking, finance, accounting, or a related commercial environment, ideally with exposure to business banking, lending, or small business customers.
  • Confidence interpreting financial information and understanding business needs
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and create long-term value for customers, and a proactive approach to business development, networking, and identifying new customer opportunities.
  • An established professional network would be valuable, but we’re equally interested in someone who has a proven ability to build credibility, grow connections, and identify new opportunities.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the confidence to work alongside specialists and internal teams to deliver the best outcomes for customers.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?

What makes this opportunity exciting is the variety and impact. No two customers are the same — you’ll work with business owners at different stages of growth, helping them make confident decisions around funding, investment, and opportunity. It’s a role where you can be out in the market, build genuine long-term relationships, and see the real difference your advice and support can make for local businesses.
